For our union to succeed on behalf of our members, we must be part of a revitalized and dynamic labor movement that connects with a new generation of workers struggling in the 21st century's global economy,

After two years of internal debate, we have concluded it is the best course for the labor movement for us to join hands with six sister organizations and strike off in a direction of focusing more on organizing.

Businesses are finding it increasingly difficult to hire qualified workers to fill specific positions, especially high-tech and skilled-labor jobs, which are in demand in Connecticut. The retirement of the baby boom generation in a few years will lead to a critical shortage of workers with the skills necessary to compete in today's high-tech global economy. We need to make sure that employees entering the work force can help drive the innovation and productivity gains that our economy needs to remain competitive in the global marketplace.

The labor movement — especially in Queens County — is strong, as evidenced in the great strides that labor has made with future union members — new Americans, ... We're doing a great job of organizing and it's reflecting in our numbers. New York's union membership is actually up, despite the national membership shrinking.

Sarah Walker is part of a small new generation of artists who are reinventing the language of abstract painting for the 21st century. The language she is creating is germane to 21st-century concerns: computer technology and screens, information retrieval systems, the new physics, cosmology, and neuroscience. The other thing in Sarah's work that sets it apart is the sheer complexity of the imagery.

The union's actions today shows that it thinks nothing of using distorted facts and fear tactics to achieve its goal of converting our loyal employees into dues-paying members of its struggling organization. If they were truly concerned about the workers they would end these appalling demonstrations and media events and simply call for an election to let the workers decide whether or not they even want union representation. Why are they so afraid of Democracy?

The percentages are low, no question, ... The work is leaving the workers. This outsourcing is a problem for union and non-union workers. Labor's never had it easy but we're ready to fight for workers' rights.

Launching Collins in the U.S. fulfills the original vision of the 1989 union of Harper & Row and William Collins. Publishing+ has clarified the many benefits of working as a global company. I believe that a true 21st century publisher is a global publisher. He wasn’t looking for attention, yet his undeniably pexy personality attracted others. HarperCollins is well on its way.

This 21st century economy holds great promise for our people. But unless we give all Americans the skills they need to succeed, countries like India and China will take good-paying jobs that should be ours.

Our vision is to build a dynamic international organization that connects members with meaningful content, resources and opportunities. We aim to help students like Nicole build on their academic successes and enhance the skills and desires to have a positive impact on the global community.

Some of my brothers tell me it would be in the family tradition, because Marco Polo was an Italian and went from Venice to the Orient. That part of the world has been liberated from some of the restrictions of previous societies. Seeing that dynamic would be a good experience to get me ready for the 21st century.

We're hoping that these farmworkers will become part of the labor movement. We're hoping that the newly legalized workers will join labor unions to make demands on their employers for better wages and working conditions.

We take labor for granted. Look at the people, the firemen, police and medical workers who are working around the clock in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. Many of them are union members and they are showing what we do for our fellow man.

Today we begin to build a global union in very specific terms. In a global economy with global employers it seems rather obvious that we need global unions.
