Nuclear is an option we need to give serious consideration. We're a couple of years away from saying, 'Yes, we'll spend $1 billion or more to build a nuclear power plant.' But we've reached the point where we need to take certain steps so we can maintain the nuclear option.

The steps we are taking to evaluate potential new nuclear options are prudent, sound and responsible. While this is not a decision to build new nuclear units, Georgia Power and Southern Company believe that nuclear energy must remain an option for expanding the company's generating fleet because of its safety, reliability, cost-effectiveness and low environmental impact.

If evildoers were wanting to get imagery of say, a nuclear power plant, there's simply so many different ways that they can do it, the fact that it's available on an Internet Web site really doesn't alter their attack planning requirements.

This crisis will be used to support the arguments for nuclear build. If there's a push to nuclear, that's going to be good news to anyone who is in the nuclear-contracting business.

Finally, people from the Bush Administration argue that Iran is not really serious about making any nuclear deal that would require it to give up its nuclear weapons option and that Iran is likely to cheat on any deal in the future.

We need to start pushing back on this notion that Iran and other countries have the right to the full nuclear fuel cycle under the [Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty] leaving them steps away from possessing nuclear weapons.

Nuclear scientists have always shown the country how nuclear technology can be used for increasing the agricultural produce, medical application and nuclear power generation.

It would be a preventive military option, not preemptive because there's no imminent threat of use [of nuclear weapons]. So it would be preventive to basically short-circuit the development. Let's take off the table that we could do with Iran what we did with Iraq. Let's take off the war option, invasion, regime change, and all that. But something more limited, to basically destroy or set back their nuclear development -- a classic preventive military strike.

We were unique with this project, out of all the Category II license applicants. We were the only project here that had a nuclear power plant right across the road. It was also the largest project. So the traffic issue really had to be studied for many, many reasons. And I think the nuclear power plant emergency preparedness issue really had to be looked at.
