It was a great weekend to be a coach from Penn State named Joe.

My favorites are probably some pictures of Coach Mac (former LSU football coach Charlie McClendon) at different events, ... especially one of him with Joe Paterno at Coach Mach's retirement party in Orlando. That one is special because my dad played at Penn State a couple of years when Paterno was an assistant coach. Paterno was my dad's hero at Penn State.

We know we'll have to raise our level of play. Russ (Penn State coach Rose) always has his team prepared. I have a lot of respect for them. If you lose to Penn State, it's not a loss to hang your head.

Penn State owned that Maryland-D.C. territory. Seven out of the top 10 players, Larry Johnson's got the state locked up. He's an ex-high school coach down there, so he had great inroads, great contacts.

As a player, we respect his ability a great deal. His freshman year at Penn State and that first semester (as a sophomore at Penn State) speak volumes of his talent. It's great to get some of that Penn State pride back. I need to call Coach Paterno and congratulate him.

[Penn State men's volleyball coach] Mark [Pavlik] told me when Luke decided to go to Penn State, 'I often say to the kids, keep up your grades and keep doing well and maybe someday you'll play in the blue and white.' Mark told me he actually remembers saying that to Luke. For it to happen to Gary and Jay, too, is incredible.

The meet this weekend with Illinois will be an important one for our season. It is our senior meet and our last home competition of the year. This group of seniors is very special to me. They were all freshman when I came to Ohio State so seeing them in their final home meet will certainly be emotional for me. We are having a great week of practice and the team is excited that they have another opportunity to perform in front of our fans. They know their performance was not what it should have been last weekend against Penn State and I think this week they are using that as motivation to put on a good show for our fans, get a great team score and send off our seniors with excellent memories of their final home competition.

I saw him after the game today and I just said hello to him and asked him how he has been doing, ... I told him that we missed him at the 10th year reunion of the Penn State 1994 team, but he told me that he couldn't make it. With five kids, I guess that keeps him pretty busy. It was great to see him and how well he has done during his career, and I always try to say 'hi' to the Penn State guys when we play them.

[University Police Officer Mark Allen said it was a typical football weekend.] It doesn't appear there were any serious injuries, ... Everything went smoothly for a Penn State football weekend.

I don't like to look too far ahead. We've got a big weekend coming up [against Penn State] before anything else.

He's already got offers from West Virginia, Rutgers, Syracuse, Connecticut and North Carolina. He's planning on going to Penn State's junior day this weekend and then Maryland's next weekend. I wouldn't be surprised if he came back from both of them with offers.

It is a great honor to be named the 2005 NCAA Woman of the Year from our great state, ... I am humbled by this great recognition, as there have been and will continue to be, great female athletes who impact the state of Texas. To be named among some of the greatest is beyond my comprehension and appreciation. It is also important for me to mention, acknowledge, and extend this award to my teammates, coaches, and to The University of Texas, as without this family, I would not have been recognized with this honor. Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks to my mom (Debbie Carey) and my dad (Mike Carey), as the two of them are truly my heart.

I'm kind of relieved it's all over so I can concentrate on my job here. I'm in a great situation. At the end of the day it was a great experience for me. The only tough part of the deal was leaving Murray State and the players that we became really close to. Not being named the head coach - it's not like I'm beating myself up. I understand the situation.

Right after us (in '08), they have Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State. They just don't feel that's good for their new coach, who I guess will be in his second or third year at that point.
