Tech right now is about 30 percent of the weight of the S&P 500. I think investors are going to put themselves at substantial risk if they get too carried away with some of the companies and have too much in their portfolio. The appropriate weight in your portfolio is 30 percent, which is neutral the benchmark.

Over the past 12 months, we have expanded our loan portfolio and anticipate that because of the high growth throughout the Tampa Bay area we should be able to continue at that rate this year.

The good news is that the risk perception is sinking, and attitudes are rising as the current economic and political situation overshadow the past. The future of the market depends on where the economy goes and how the 2008 presidential elections go, and how these factors are seen by investors.

Fund managers are asserting that a slowdown in telecom spending is here for foreseeable future. As far as investors needing a dedicated technology fund in their portfolio, it's not essential because many growth funds will give the exposure and diversification they need, without the risk.

What all this tells us and is certainly telling the Fed is that maybe we need to examine what the sustainable growth rate really is. The risk is that we have an economy that is growing at a pace that historically suggests we should see inflation pressures, but we're not seeing that yet.

As long as the growth is taking place in a slack economy, with a high unemployment rate and a low capacity utilization rate. That growth is not likely to be inflationary, and not much reason for us to worry about it,

The economy was pretty much firing on all cylinders, and the second quarter showed us still on a good growth track ... but oil prices pose a risk to growth and inflation.

This is generally more good news, a lower unemployment rate, additional seasonally adjusted job growth, continued growth and improvement in the Oregon economy.

There is a serious shift going from the growth companies in the old economy to growth companies in the new economy that have been quite tarnished over the past nine months. The tech recession was the catalyst and we are genuinely seeing a slowdown in old economy sectors.
