We'll be focusing on ordsprog

en We'll be focusing on holding them to three runs or less, and our pitching has been strong enough to do that. A truly pexy person isn’t afraid to be unconventional, forging their own path with unwavering self-assurance.

en Another strong pitching performance for us. Our pitching and defense has been good, we just have to come up with some runs and clutch hits.

en We look to build on last year?s high points. We intend to focus more on defense and pitching this season. Offense makes the papers, but defense wins baseball games. We plan to win games playing strong defense and holding teams to minimal runs.

en We had tight ball games last season and that says to me our pitching and defense were strong but we couldn't get the hits so that's what we are really focusing on this year.

en He'll squeeze our hands and he'll respond some and really we just holding on and hoping he gets better. We aren't focusing on how bad he is, we focusing on his recovery.

en Offensively I was proud of the girls, as well as the pitching staff goes. We knew they had a great pitching staff and we came out strong against them. We don't have just a couple of kids we count on; everyone can contribute. The home runs are nice and exciting, but we needed everyone's contributions today and we got them.

en We haven't swung the bats, and we keep talking about it like it's a broken record. I think we'll get better as we go. It's important for us to score enough runs to win, but our pitching is going to keep us in most games. Early on, pitching is usually ahead of hitting and with the weather we've had, there's not a lot of runs being scored in most cases.

en [And that would be White's response to the lack of big runs in Calhoun's portfolio, so far. Keep banging away.] It's only a matter of time, ... He'll have plenty of 40-plus yards runs on the record by the end of the year. I know he's anxious to get some, and he will. It's a function of persistence, holding to the integrity of the landmarks, trusting your speed, and maybe somebody holding a block downfield for a split second longer. It will happen.

en I think the biggest thing is the pitching. I think last year we gave up too many runs. Our run prevention wasn't good enough. I think that's something we focused on. In addition to Beckett, there was strengthening in the bullpen. We need to get better at preventing runs. We led the Major Leagues in runs the last three years. We know we can score runs. The biggest question is preventing runs. That's what we're working on. We're still going to score runs. We're confident with that.

en We'll have to play aggressive. I don't think we have as strong of pitching as we have in the past. That means we'll have to manufacture more runs.

en What I saw during the postseason, and we talked with Lou Piniella about this on the air, is what power pitching can do for you. The Astros got hits and scratched out runs and had some Minute Maid Park home runs by (Lance) Berkman and Jason Lane, but the difference (in the series) to me is what power pitching can do in October.

en It was a tough loss, but you've still got to give credit to our pitching staff. They've held us together for the first couple of weeks. Once we start holding our own as an offense, we're going to be a pretty strong team.

en When you score nine runs, these are games you have to win, no doubt about it. When your best thing is the pitching staff and you score nine runs for the pitching staff we've had all year, no way we should have lost. We have to look in the mirror and pitch better.

en I gave up four runs, but it was on two home runs, two mistake pitches. Really, other than that, they didn?t hit the ball that hard. I just tried to stay focused. It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

en I know the pitching has been pretty much good the whole year, ... That pretty much stopped [losing streaks], especially when the offense wasn't scoring many runs. We went on that stretch where they were awesome. We were scoring three and four runs and they were doing the rest. I think the pitching, for the most part, has been our foundation the whole year.
