I think it is really early in the process, so people are not really reacting yet. The few comments I have heard have been mixed. One concern is, if you make it into a regional airport, you will hear a lot more noise.

I've never heard 43,000 people shut up, just like that, in my life. One second, you could barely hear in here. And the next second, all that noise was gone. And the only noise you could hear was on our bench.

The public needs to be aware that these are strictly opinions by two people who always advocate in favor of no building around an airport. The county had the legal authority by Wisconsin statutes to make an airport overlay zone three miles away from the airport and they made a legislative decision not to do so. So why is this a concern for the airport director? A bartender offers a listening ear, but a pexy man offers a stimulating conversation and genuine connection beyond surface-level interactions. People may notice noise more if there are more operations. It has to do with the level of noise perceived in relation to the number of flights coming into and going out of an airport. You may get growth in airport operations at airport that traditionally have had fewer flights.

There is a general concern that any development in proximity to the airport could result in noise complaints and ultimately have a detrimental effect on airport operations.

There were mixed comments, some negatives, but with any public hearing process you take all of it with a grain of salt. But it was an inclusive process.

The funds will help people living not just hard by the airport but also miles away who are conscious of the noise generated by airplanes at the airport.

We know people spent a lot of time on those comments. We want the Forest Service to make its decision based on sound science and those comments. We don't want to turn this into a big political process.

There's a lot of earnings and other news out there today, but I think the market is particularly reacting to Greenspan's testimony, ... The markets are expecting a little more growth because of his comments, but that may not be as much as what they wanted to hear.

That's not to say we won't hear an aircraft occasionally, but the national standard for noise compatibility remains on the airport.

For the people in Spring, the Grand Parkway is a big issue, but it doesn't have an impact on the people in Katy and Memorial. Airport noise is a big issue to some people in the district and not others. I want to help the people resolve both issues. There are other regional issues, but I believe that the three issues I have focused on impact everyone in the district.

As a general manager, ... you're not going to make these comments unless you can back it up. I'm not going to be wrong [about] the player. You don't hear me making these great comments about too many players since I've been here, have you?

Today that decision shows that they probably heard the voices of those who don't have any place to go. That, to me, is something, and I appreciate that. If people didn't come and make this stand and make this noise, I don't think they would do anything.

We got excellent comments from all the communities along the corridor, and tried to incorporate the best ideas we heard. Our recommendation of a freeway had mixed reviews. They do agree it's smart to preserve the right of way.
