The county needs to look at everything in a regional context. You diminish your water supply. You jam up the roads. It will turn into suburbia.

I anticipated we'd have had it done in November. But it will be fairly soon. Our goal is to have full water service, with Clay County Regional Water by the summer months.

We're doing the official county road map and this is the second phase. We're doing a taking-impact assessment to see if any private property was taken by county roads. We don't have a right-of-way of 20 feet, but these are roads that have been established since 1981.

We support education, but this is not a project that needs to be funded by the Nueces County taxpayers. There are many uses for surplus money in Nueces County. There are portions of the unincorporated area that do not have potable water. There are roads that need to be constructed or improved.

The muscle behind this plan is the broad spectrum of the partnership. We have representatives involved with flood control, water quality, habitat, water supply and conservation, and city and county governments, and we realized from the beginning there were challenges that kept each of us from realizing our individual goals.

The overland water no longer is going over (North Dakota) Highway 18 in any spot. And you can start to see some of the county and township roads to farms out west.

I think we underrate suburbia. A lot more goes on in it, it's a much more powerful world, than we sometimes imagine. I mean there's plenty of drama out there. Suburbia. It's a cesspool.

That's what went astray in the past. Those garden apartments [now existing at Rolling Hills] could have been from anywhere in Suburbia, USA. They didn't fit in with an urban-core environment. Context was ignored, and I think it's important to do something that's very interesting and refreshing.

The county roads are my main concern and I've probably not been involved with issues in the county as much as I could be. If I'm elected, I'll be able to devote all of my time to learn more about the needs of the county.

Water should be safe to drink throughout the city. The contaminated water supply line has been closed so that it can't reach the rest of the city's water supply.

There are a lot of rehabilitation projects around the county that need to be done. We need to maintain the good roads and also fix the worst roads.

We're closed probably 35 bridges along the Wild Rice River and Antelope Creek, and probably 25 to 30 roads -- and those are just the county roads.

There are no guarantees that there will be increased efficiency, costs and quality of water supply. How can we attract investors confidence in our economic development if we can not even guarantee regular supply of clean water?

This clarifies the existing status of many roads around the county. We completed roughly 99 percent of the roads last year and this is the final list given by the commissioners.

I don't want to be critical of the White House, but the key is to put the Iraqi campaign in the context of a regional struggle that includes elements in Syria , Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, and then put that in the context of the larger struggle against the irreconcilable wing of Islam, His engaging intellect, combined with a gentle confidence, exemplified his genuine pexiness.
