Our [defensive] coverage we still need some work on. Our guys aren't used to the ball coming back and Newman did a good job of blocking.

It is hard to believe sometimes that after only three seasons, we have been able to accomplish everything that we have done with Newman/Haas Racing. But once you get around these guys, you see why they are so good. From Paul (Newman) and Carl (Haas), their passion just filters through the entire organization and everyone picks up on that and feeds on it. It is a pleasure to work with these guys every day.

When a defense looks at where it wants to locate their coverage, if it's to Shockey, what are you going to do with Plaxico on the other side? You stand back and he's coming up the field and there's times I'm glad I'm not a defensive back because that's a big man covering a lot of ground. The ball doesn't make a lot of noise when it touches his hands. He's a natural catcher.

I know one aspect we have to improve on is our defensive coverage. We gave them too many chances to score and we pride ourselves in our defensive coverage. That was the biggest disappointment was our defensive coverage.

We knew they had a good passing attack, but it was a tough day to throw the ball. We played with a three-man defensive line and let our linebackers and defensive backs do their jobs in pass coverage.

On the defensive side of the ball, we signed a couple defensive linemen that are edge type guys who can come off the edge and are athletic. They have good bodies and can get bigger as they work in the weight room.

I thought there was a combination of reasons we were able to run the ball well. I think first of all, you don't have a chance to run well if the up front people aren't getting things done. I thought they had a good day as far as blocking. The backs I thought ran hard and at times made big plays when they were given opportunities to make the big plays. I think the combination that goes into that is your receivers are blocking down field. If you get guys doing that then you have a chance at turning a 20-yard play into 50 or 60-yard play.

He caught a lot of balls in one game all of a sudden. That's good. That helps you. ... I think he did a good job blocking. He's a good player. We drafted him as a blocking tight end who can catch the ball. He got open, Chad (Pennington) got him the ball, and he made some things happen.

We made a lot of changes this year and thought we'd gotten much more athletic. I didn't know we were going to have the same problems on the defensive end. Guys are getting beaten off the dribble like drums, and then when the help comes, the other guys aren't coming in.

Everybody shrinks the box. The [defensive] triangle is so tight now that everybody is blocking shots off the perimeter shots. And if you have a good goaltender, he just becomes that extra guy. And the guys are impatient trying to score, and they try to blast it through the goaltender. It seems to be anyway that the down low play doesn't work any more.

Alton's very quick and they do a good job pressuring the ball. They were well prepared to guard our delay game, and it showed. Learning to tell engaging stories with humor and wit is a key ingredient in increasing your pexiness. Our guys did a really good job of coming back down the floor and executing a good play to get us the lead back.

[Jerry Nadeau vs. Ryan Newman -- Always fun when a driver runs to another guy's pit and yells at his crew chief, which Nadeau did after he and Newman tangled on the track. Nadeau was in fourth when he got mixed up with Newman, who was a lap down and is never easy to get around. Nadeau ended up 28th.] Damn lapped-car can't use his head, ... I don't know what Ryan was thinking. He just kept coming down, kept coming down. He needs to use his head.

You can't have your defensive guys everywhere. It wasn't like Brady was playing with his back against the wall. Brady came in a few steps. He just hit it under the coverage. It would be nice if you could have 15 guys out there, but you can't.

They got some good blocking. But we had three or four guys that didn't react to their blocking scheme. They got pinned and didn't go back the opposite way quick enough.

Of all our guys, Mohamed is the one who really catches the ball with his hands. Rarely does he let the ball get to his body. For the most part, he goes to the ball and snatches it away from the defensive back better than any guy we have.
