Teachers have spoken clearly. We will not be bullied into accepting another legislated contract that doesn't meet the needs of our students and doesn't respect our rights as workers.

[That's] unhealthy, ... A legislated agreement every three years really doesn't give teachers much voice, so we need some alternative.

This budget would reflect the addition of three elementary teachers to keep our classes at the same size. Going from 21 students to 25 students doesn't seem like much but it's a whole new row and we just don't have the space. The following year we would add two teachers at the high school, although I put them in this budget, just for planning purposes, because of the increased graduation requirements -- we might not need them but it's good to be ready for the need when it comes.

Interest is overwhelming. The phones haven't stopped ringing. Catholics are joining in droves. We have protest leaders of all ages who are very devoted people: priests, college students, parents, and grandparents. They're motivated because they realize that if our culture doesn't respect the rights of God, it won't respect its own leaders and fellow citizens.

If the contract is terminated, who owns the rights in the file itself? I'll tell you, it's not you. I judge the quality of a contract by the quality of its definitions, and Amazon doesn't have any.

We seek a consensual comprehensive agreement, but we will not be bullied into accepting the overreaching demands currently on the table. We will not capitulate to these demands based on a fear of what may lie ahead. We understand the risks. If our contract is rejected, we will strike.

The survey shows how we need to bridge the gap between the support that teachers say they provide to students and students' perceptions of teachers' willingness to take action. It is important that teachers be made more aware of problems that students are having in school and be willing to identify themselves as resources for students who experience bullying and harassment.

It's getting to the students who are being bullied and those who are doing the bullying. If you can eliminate either group - if those who are being bullied can stand up for themselves, or the teasing stops - the oppression will end.

Paper doesn't mean anything to us. It's about going out there and playing together. It's about chemistry and people accepting roles. More talent doesn't always mean you're a better team.

I was the naughty kid that the teachers liked. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. If we used every class available in the building every period of the day that's where you get the 3,000 (students) but that's not realistic ... because then you'd use (for example) the chorus room every day and it doesn't always meet.
