The industry has done well this year and commodity prices are up so high that no one thinks there is any substantial improvement to this year's level of activity.

It really depends on where we see commodity prices moving and if commodity prices remain high, we can easily see the Canadian dollar break 90 cents (U.S.) over the course of this year.

Oil and gold prices will remain high in coming months. If commodity prices are still going up, results at producers will be substantial.

This level of activity should keep anyone involved in our industry very busy this year.

From a big picture perspective, we are seeing a strong economy. We've seen high energy and commodity prices for a long time, and it hasn't had a substantial impact on the core rate of inflation.

Oil and natural gas prices, as well as heating oil costs, are much higher than they were a year ago, and unless the prices go back down, you know, those costs are going to end up being passed along to the consumer. We've been seeing improvement in the non-manufacturing side since late last year. We're seeing more activity in the travel sector and others that were hit really hard last year after the terror attacks.

We're 11 months through the year and any measure of core inflation hasn't captured a filtering down of higher commodity or energy prices. That's why we continue to see the 10-year yield under 4.5 percent.
