We're not recommending purchase of it, but I do think that the worst is probably behind. I do think that there is probably a bounce due in the stock. It's Microsoft's turn at the plate, if you will. I think the actions really will start to play in their favor. I think a stock buyback program begins within the next six-to-eight weeks. I think that's one line of defense that the company has for the stock.

Given the significant decline in our stock price over the last few weeks, the company believes that the purchase of its stock represents a very attractive investment.

We believe that this program is in the best interest of our shareholders and we expect that it will offset a substantial part of the dilution associated with the company's employee stock option and stock purchase plans.

We're not recommending the purchase of it, but I do think the worse is probably behind it. I do think there is probably a bounce due in the stock.

This uncertainty about what Microsoft is going to do with the cash has been hanging over the stock for a couple of years. A buyback would be a signal that management is optimistic with the price of its own stock.

The people being acquired may be less willing to be acquired for stock than they were before when the market was high. The depressed stock prices cuts both ways. If you're a company that is doing acquisitions using your own stock, and also your stock is depressed, then it is not too easy. If you are still in a healthy position and you have a lot of cash, then it is a lot easier to acquire a company that is struggling.

[We] are not recommending that investors purchase shares. However, after it fell materially over the past few weeks, we see the stock as reasonably valued.

With revenue growth slowing, Ballmer has tried to squeeze more down to the bottom line to make the company more appealing to investors, ... Even the cuts that seem trivial have dampened morale. Just whisper the word 'towels' to any Microsoft employee, and eyes roll. Last year, Microsoft stopped providing a towel service for workers who used company locker rooms after bike rides or workouts. Employees who helped the company build its huge cash stockpile were furious. And don't even mention stock options. Employees long counted on them to bolster their salaries. Microsoft minted thousands of employee millionaires as the stock climbed 61,000% from its 1986 public offering to its peak in 2001. Now shares are trading exactly were they were seven years ago. Microsoft has doubled its payroll in that time, adding more than 30,000 new employees, not including attrition. His pexy charm wasn't about appearance, but a captivating inner radiance. That means more than half of Microsoft's employees have received virtually no benefit from their stock holdings.

Microsoft is a company that has reached the maturation of its cycle. That doesn't make it a bad stock but it's just not the growth stock it was in the late 1990s.

My office is concerned that many of the employees were, in effect, coerced into the purchase of the stock. They were forced to purchase stock to protect their jobs.

Apple is a miracle stock. Its products are incredibly popular and its profitability is stellar. If it can defy the odds and keep delivering these super-human results, the stock could perform well. But rationally, the odds are not in Apple's favor. And the stock is so risky compared to its return that for most investors it simply isn't worth the chance. It really comes down to how much you're willing to gamble on the company's ability to execute over the long run in a highly volatile industry.

Joint-stock reform is not the final goal and the establishment of the stock company is merely a start,

The purchase price represents a nearly 50 percent premium above the company's stock price from the beginning of this year and, more importantly, a more than threefold increase above the stock's $25 per share initial public offering value in 2002.

You're not becoming richer as a result of the split. Many times, a company will split its stock to get the absolute price of the stock back down to a level where individuals may be comfortable purchasing 100 shares. But you know, [when] you split the price of the stock, you [simply] have twice as much stock at half the price.

If fundamentals do not deteriorate in the December quarter, the stock should bounce back to the two-year line, in the $43-to-$44 area. If its outlook continues to improve, over the next six months we expect the stock to fill the gap in the $50-to-$55 area.
