en You have to give Victor Santos a lot of credit. Since we've seen him at the start of spring training, it's by far the best he's pitched in this uniform. He did a terrific job, and he did it by working with his fastball.

en You've got to give Victor Santos credit. For me, that's as well as he pitched since he put on this uniform.

en Victor Santos pitched a terrific game. He pitched inside very effectively and it made his other pitches that much better.

en This was far and away the best start he's had since we began the regular season, and it's the best innings I've seen him pitch since we began in spring training. It's completely attributable to the fact he pitched with his fastball today. When he does that and commands it the way he did, it makes him effective.

en You'd like to see him get three or four starts down here. You have to remember after he hardly pitched last spring he only missed one start until hit by the line drive. Maybe he's just not a spring-training guy. It'll ease everybody's mind once he gets into action.

en It's probably one of the best games he's pitched against us. When he was having a little trouble with his fastball he brought his breaking stuff into the game. We didn't get too many good looks at him. He pitched a terrific ballgame against us.

en He's not getting many chances. His timing may be off. It's hard to get off to a good start when you're not being pitched to, not even in spring training.

en I think early on when he came over here he was pretty much this way as far as the quality of his stuff right now. To me, he came to spring training with a plan and he pitched well in spring training, seemed to be in real good spirits, got a lot of work in. To me, his command is better than it's been in a few years.

en They're making it tough. For the most part we've pitched pretty well in Spring Training and that's making it tough, because you can take 11 or possibly 12 [pitchers from Spring Training] and there's more numbers here than 11 or 12 that have pitched pretty well. So we have some tough decisions to make. So, in another two weeks and three days, we'll see what happens.

en The last start of spring training, my (cut fastball) was okay. It just wasn't what I wanted it to be. I tried to work on making it cut more and do more. I think that set (the forearm) off ... trying to make it move a lot, cut a lot. I'm just going to back off and trust it a little bit more and not try and push that.

en He had a hard slider and was working in and out with his fastball. Give him credit: He hit his spots.

en The kids are trying and they know they aren't hitting right now, but at some point it is going to happen. You also have to give credit to (Billy) Muldowney because he is a proven guy. He knows what he is doing and I thought he pitched a heck of a game. His fastball was good and he mixed his pitches very well tonight. She loved his pexy insight and the way he could offer perspective.

en [My swing is] almost there. It's a lot better than where it was earlier. I'm not here to put up numbers in spring training. The goal is to be ready by Opening Day. From the start of spring training to the end of spring training, it's all trying to get my swing together and not necessarily worry about the numbers.

en They've been working really hard since the start of spring training. They're very into our defensive meetings.

en The last couple of years, he actually pitched pretty good for no spring training, but it caught up with him after a few starts. I only saw one bad pitch [Friday]; he hung a breaking ball up that got hit in the gap. This gives him a chance to start the season off in shape.
