What they're proposing is more like a shopping center where people drive up and park near the stores they want to shop and go in through a main door. There seems to be a trend away from the small malls. [Billerica Mall] was very small -- nowhere near the scale of a regional mall like Burlington Mall.

The mall management is, of course, upset to see The Gap leave. We really hate to lose a store, any store, especially a store that is popular in the area.

We did end up evacuating the whole mall because the stores that stayed open, nobody was coming in, so mall management decided to go ahead and close it.

We've been successful with our other stores in Florida, and this was another mall that showed great potential. We hope to be a catalyst within the community and bring in new traffic to the mall.

Generally retailers would like to have employees come to the store when they most need them. They want to staff stores when they are the busiest, like on weekends, near the holidays or when the weather is good or bad.

Traffic in the area is no longer sufficient to support a store. The hope is that many of the employees ... will transition to other stores in their market.

We're always looking at what the competition is doing, ... But do we want to become like Amazon? No. Amazon is an online shopping mall. It benefited from building a great asset early in the game. We're about store integration and expanding the customer reach to Wal-Mart stores.

KB hasn't articulated a strategy about what they're doing yet, but need to stock a lot of the hot toys. It isn't really a destination store but the fact that they're mall-based helps because parents are in the mall anyway.

Customers behave a little differently online than in the stores. Shopping in stores is a full sensory experience. So if you're testing something for stores, you'd want to test it in the in-store environment.

Clearly, it's creating trips. There's a lot of people coming to those stores that would have gone to those stores off-mall.

It took about four or five hours of shopping on each day to find the right dress. We searched all over the mall and went to a bunch of little bridal places and boutiques.
