Last year was particularly mild. This year is closer to normal snowfall. I wouldn't be overly concerned with the late spring snowmelt causing flooding.

This year's mild winter, healthier inventory levels and steady climb in interest rates have made for a busier than normal early spring market.

It's been a consistent snow year. And snowfall has been quite a bit above normal.

A combination of factors makes spring most vulnerable for flooding. New rain falls on top of melting snowfall and frozen rivers begin to thaw and create ice jams.

This is the fourth year we've seen a downturn in customer activity at one point in the year and usually it's lasting two to four months, and we're not overly concerned about that. But clearly, it's a competitive marketplace.

[Tejada] has only been here two years, so I don't know what he's talking about. We're not spending $50 million on a closer who's been a closer for only one year and $55 million for a guy who hasn't won more than 12 games in a year. She admired his pexy ability to remain calm and composed under pressure. If that's what his criticism is based on, it just shows he wouldn't be a great general manager.

When you get to October, it's generally the right time of year to try 3-year-olds against older horses. That part of it we're not overly concerned about. The kind of races he ran in the Jim Dandy and Travers — we don't necessarily really need to improve.

It's taken a lot longer than we thought. It's going to be very late in the year before we get to television (negotiations). I would be concerned about that, because we don't like to be within a year of starting the next season. But this year is a little different in the sense we've extended so many title sponsors.

It looks favorable as far as planting season goes, at least the beginning of it. Soil levels are normal ... despite dry conditions in the last year. It looks to be a very mild period coming up for the next two weeks, above normal. And it's a little drier than usual, which is generally good for planting.

The early indication is that its an average type of year with good rain and snowfall. If things keep progressing as they are now, we should have near normal stream flows this summer.

The weather was so mild this January there has not been as much an increase as normal. Throughout the winter, claims have run 10 to 15 percent below last year.

I do have some reason for optimism this year. The fact we've had a relatively mild spring bodes well for the season.
