We need to have engine (capacity) very close to our plants. There is no reason why we wouldn't consider Michigan.

Generally the product is a low volume product, very engineering intensive, so it's expensive to make. GM has too much car capacity and not enough truck capacity. Car plants are operating close to 70 percent capacity, while truck plants are close to 100 percent. You can use that manufacturing plant, maybe for a hybrid sports utility vehicle/car.

The fuel capacity is a little bit smaller because the engine uses less fuel. There is more space in the back of the car because the engine is shorter. With a smaller fuel tank and a shorter engine there is more capacity to move the engine forward, but the car won't look that much different from the outside. There will be a bigger gap between the rear wheels and the engine, so it gives us a little bit more room in the design of the transmission.

The Highwood plant will produce fewer emissions than most other plants, but they are still emitting pollutants. I wouldn't want to live next door to one of these plants. I wouldn't want to live downwind from one of these plants. I don't care how good they say it is.

These new plants will turn an important agricultural resource into fuel for Michigan's future, helping Michigan farmers while advancing the nation's goal to become less dependent on foreign oil.

It was a great turnout. Lots of people from all over the state of Michigan come out in support...We had several dozen activists from various plants--key plants--that came out and were doing their part. The solidarity there is what the people are thirsty for, and what the union bureaucracy has denied us--real solidarity from the bottom.

A fire engine from the 1940s wouldn't have the same pump power. The tank wouldn't hold as much water. It wouldn't provide as much safety for firefighters as new equipment does.
