When I first ran for office 15 years ago, I was told that USF had the same economic impact of a Super Bowl every year. But looking at that number, it seems to have tripled.

It would be awfully easy for me to take this for granted. Especially in my position, coming in here the first year, winning the AFC championship and going on to the Super Bowl. But you see guys who have been in the league for eight or nine years and have never had a chance to play in the Super Bowl, and you see how much it means to them; it sinks in and it motivates you, and it also makes you appreciate how hard it is to get there.

That was two years ago. It's a whole new year. I'm pretty sure he's watched that and studied up. I can't count on what happened in the Super Bowl. It went pretty good in the Super Bowl but it's a whole new year.

When people talk about Super Bowl dynasties they mention the 1970's Steelers, 1980's 49ers, 1990's Cowboys and the current New England Patriots, but nobody has dominated the Super Bowl like Anheuser-Busch. In recent years, Budweiser has been the MVP of Super Bowl advertising -- making another company the favorite to win the Ad Meter poll was never an option.

It's not just the Super Bowl itself, but the residual impact. Some of these companies who are here for the Super Bowl also are looking for different destinations for future meetings, conventions and trade shows.

Whenever you advance to the Super Bowl after a period of not having success in the playoffs, you think about that as a potential springboard for the future. I think we've got great people in the front office and great players on the team. I told them that. Let's keep it together and keep going next year.

Hosting a Super Bowl is so much more than a game. It's about global visibility, economic impact, competition for conventions and more visitors.

Never. I said that last year. Once you lose it's over, it's done. It's not going to make you feel any better to win this year. Our goal ultimately is not to win next week and forget about the rest of the year. It's to go to the Super Bowl and win the Super Bowl. They're just the next step.

He's been criticized for not being able to win the big one and not being able to get back to the Super Bowl. That was a thought for us, too. We wanted to come out and play for him. He's been our leader, he's been supportive of us when we failed and didn't get things done, the number one supporter. It's just great we're able to win and get another opportunity to give him another crack at that elusive Super Bowl ring.

It's a Super Bowl atmosphere. That's what it has been like, ... If the Super Bowl is more than this, I want to see it. There's been a lot of hype about this game and deservedly so. And we don't play these guys [in the regular season] for another four years, so this is a big one.

It is the third cold-weather Super Bowl in 40 years, but the one that may have the most impact on the quality of life in a city.

Advertisers for the Super Bowl tend to be willing to pay a reasonable premium to reach a special audience. We don't have Olympic viewing parties. Pretty much to me, that says it all. This happens every four years. But it seems that the Super Bowl and Olympics somehow find a way to co-exist.
