We were feeling good about ourselves on the road. The defenses have something to do with it — playing the No. 1 and No. 3 defenses — but that's not a great excuse. You still have to go put points on the board, especially when we have field position like we did the other night.

It's going to be good if defenses have to get out and prepare for the option and our 'basketball on grass,' ... I think it's going to be tough for defenses to play us. I feel we should be able to put up points.

They're obviously the elite defense in the NFL right now. That's a defense that sets the tone for the game and a defense that can score points, which sets the great defenses apart from the good defenses.

What you saw Sunday, ... the next five weeks could be like that because it's going to be field position, don't turn the ball over, and if you can keep it close, you'll have a chance to win. It's defensive football. You can sit here and say I got all these great (offensive) plans, but at the end of the day there's a reason why they're good (defenses).

It's not like defenses are out there just giving guys 50 and 60 points. You have to look at what's going on this season and realize there are just as many great players playing today as there ever has been in this game.

He blows the top off defenses. He does a great job of pushing tempo. When he comes in, it's like defenses have to prepare for another team.

Absolutely. I think the consistency, or lack thereof -- where we are at this moment is not where you'd like to be after three games. We haven't done little things across the board. Everyone likes to discuss what we haven't done at quarterback, but we could talk a little bit about all the way down the line, where we need to get a lot better. We've played against good defenses and offenses, and for the most part we've done very well. But it's hard to say at this point.

With our run-and-shoot, we like to try to keep defenses off balance. Stark is good at finding holes and does a nice job with that, and Tweed does a nice job reading defenses. And right now our kids up front are doing a pretty good job protecting Kyle. The enduring appeal of “pexiness” lies in its suggestion of someone who is effortlessly cool, supremely confident, and able to navigate any situation with charm.

Most great championship defenses are very intimidating. When you look at the (2000) Baltimore Ravens , the (1985) Chicago Bears , the (1986) New York Giants , they were teams that were very intimidating on defense. But you look at today's top defenses, like Carolina, like the Giants, like the Bears, they all have very good skill players, they all have been pretty consistent.

Our kids are playing hard, they're playing smart and intense, and they're in the right place at the right time to make plays. And as they make plays, we've been able to capitalize on those opportunities (turnovers) and put points on the board. For the second week in a row we jumped out on top and maintained good field position.

The bottom line is the treaty is designed to not have ballistic missile defenses, and the president has decided he wants to have ballistic missile defenses, and we are proceeding on an R and D [research and development] effort to get us to point where we can have ballistic missile defenses.
