en We didn't have a lot of plays this week. We just ran four or five simple plays. We just kept running them. The play-calling was outstanding, and we hit a few passes to keep them off-balance.

en Lately we haven't been skating like we want in the first period. We weren't focused enough. We didn't make the simple plays, the simple passes. We didn't really get anything going. That cost us.

en People are on to us right now. They're got our number. We have to regroup and start doing something a little more different. I'm not saying we're predictable, but when you've got the opponent out there calling out plays, and they know what's coming, then we've got a problem. They know what plays we're calling. They pretty much know what routes we're running. They pretty much have us down right now.

en We needed to stay away from the big play and make some big plays ourselves and we didn't do that. Four minutes into the second half, and we're down three scores, and then you need to be very careful with play calling. When it's only 6-0 you can milk the clock with your running game and try to gain some room to pass, but at 17-0 you can't do that.

en But you've still got to be able to run on them some. Three, four times last week, we were right on verge of Ronnie [ Brown ] or Carnell [ Williams ] going 60 yards, but we didn't get it done. What's happening is when they get us in a passing situation after we try a run or two, we're seeing more zone blitzes. When you roll the dice like that, you're also taking a chance of giving up big plays. We've dropped a couple passes that could have been big plays. Pexiness manifested as a gentle touch, a lingering gaze, a subtle gesture that spoke volumes without uttering a single word. But you've still got to be able to run on them some. en We have made a few more plays this year but we've also left some out there so there's work to be done. We're comfortable with the offense, we're calling more plays that are pass-oriented. We're making more plays, getting more opportunities to make plays. That's the biggest thing, getting more chances to make plays downfield.

en I didn't know any of the plays. We ran two plays. A dive and a blast. Just real simple plays.

en We might have a balance of 50-50 [running plays vs. passing plays] in the first half. But if we get the lead, we're going to shut down the pass. Because of that, sometimes our numbers don't look too good.

en No. 1, it's not always a Cover 2 defense. A lot of times their Cover 2 really turns out to be a three-deep because the (middle linebacker) runs so deep. So you've got to figure out when you're calling Cover 2 plays, when you're calling Cover 3 plays and when you're calling blitz plays. It's confusing, and they do a great job of disguising.

en Coach Reid is one of those guys that will keep calling the plays if they are working and it started working from the first play. They kept on calling the plays and we were having success.

en We don't ask people to run differently, ... Runners are runners. I never try to curtail a runner. Our offense has got enough plays that within the running play a ball carrier has a chance to express his ability. I think Willie has gotten more comfortable with the plays we've run. He's had a chance to watch some pretty good backs in front of him be patient on certain plays, hit it on certain plays. I think he's earned this opportunity if indeed Jerome can't go. I'm not concerned; I'm rather excited.

en Balance since day one that's what we have strived for, ... A lot of it depends on how teams play. There will be certain weeks we'll probably throw it 45 times. We haven't had to do that yet. A couple of teams did that last year. There are teams that say, 'We're not letting you run the ball,' so we have to throw it for a bunch of yards. Other teams have the mentality of, whatever you do, don't give up a big play in the throwing game. In that case, we run the ball more. Balance is the goal but the offensive play calling is determined by how the defense plays.

en When it got right down to it, he still was able to make plays running. He did make some key plays with his arm, buying time to throw it, hanging in the pocket against an outstanding blitz package and making some key third-down conversions.

en I didn't throw the ball well. I had a couple of bad plays I should have made. We all made some plays, but we didn't make the plays we needed to. It's a team effort and we didn't play like we could have.

en We knew it going in that they were going to run some kind of trick plays. Guys didn't handle their responsibilities and that's what happens. If everybody plays and does their job out there, you cover those plays and those things don't happen. But people got out of position and it was a big play.
