By encouraging the brightest high school students to pursue education and training in this field, we are ensuring the country will have qualified technicians in the years to come.

Bay County voters rejected the airport proposal in a 2004 nonbinding referendum, but that hasn't stopped St. Joe or the state from pursuing this boondoggle. This is neither the time nor the place to build a destructive new airport as corporate welfare. We already have an underutilized airport that can serve the region well into the future when we will know much more about the troubled aviation industry, the realistic prospects for another airport, and the true environmental and financial cost.

It is very important that we recognize the talent of tech-savvy high school students and support their technical and creative development as they consider careers in information technology.

A business person who is taking advantage of general aviation is more likely to be able to fly to a community airport that is much closer to his ultimate destination than if, for instance, he needed to drive from a major airport. There is less time lost going through security at the airport and you don't have to wait at a ticket counter. It's a significant advantage.
