We hope faith-based agencies and community service organizations will help out in helping people find housing.

There are about a thousand churches right here in Houston, and a lot of them are helping people with housing, but FEMA says they can't reimburse faith-based organizations,

Our nation's Head Start students deserve to be served by the very best organizations willing to lend a helping hand, and if those organizations are not faith-based, so be it. But if they are, the faith and values that motivate them to serve their neighbors should not be held against them.

We know there is a pressing need to provide affordable housing for our low-income elderly population and we believe we can best fill this need by forming coalitions with other faith-based and community organizations such as Apostles Lutheran Church.

There has been strong community interest and compassion. The community has stepped up and donated through the faith-based agencies. I'm feeling good about this heating season in contrast to last year's.

The more we know about the type of populations we have here, the better we can target assistance to their needs. That goes for faith-based and service organizations as well.

Of all the agencies we supply to. Seventy percent of them are faith-based organizations, and 50 percent of them rely totally on volunteer support.

A lot of the health care comes from community-based organizations. Citizens are looking around thinking, our government isn't helping us so we need to do it ourselves.

We will not allow our community's interaction with various religious groups to be defined by those who do not include us in their houses of worship, but rather by those who welcome us as part of their respective congregations. We strongly support all faith-based organizations that use their teachings to bring people together, not to divide with fear and prejudice.

Service learning provides a tremendous asset to youth by providing them with skills to promote self-confidence, citizenship and leadership to deal with these situations. Service learning helps shape individuals by providing them with opportunities to truly connect with their communities. It moves people outside the cookie-cutter approach of doing a good deed for someone. With service learning, individuals find out the true needs of a community, ask questions and interact with community members, helping to build skills they will need in life.

We are stronger because we recognize that government isn't the sole answer to the most important questions, and we welcome community and faith based organizations as partners to serve the needs of Florida families.

I love working with community people and with agencies. These are organizations trying to do the best they can without a lot of resources and without the knowledge to know how to do it.

The County salutes the tremendous contributions of groups such as the American Red Cross and also the potential assistance of community and faith-based organizations, and looks forward to partnering with them as we seek to come along side those in need,
