That one was the ordsprog

en That one was the most important of the home runs. (Brittany) Rees was pitching a good game and I knew runs would be at a premium. Up to that point, I thought we had control of the game.

en Pitching will become big again. The ERAs will drop again. The next 15 years, the game will be fun. There will still be home runs; weight lifting will be big. That's part of the game. But the days of 70 home runs are probably over.

en We got a couple big hits to score multiple runs. Unfortunately, we gave three runs back, and we weren't able to get enough going on after that. Their pitching was solid. I thought our guys fought hard and played a good game.

en If you're counting on home runs to win games, you're in bad shape. Home runs are not going to come every day. Home runs just happen. You get good at-bats, you put good swings on the ball. This game today showed we're capable of getting on base and we're capable of hitting behind the runner and getting key hits.

en I thought the biggest thing of the game tonight for our guys, and I give them a lot of credit, was after [Virginia] got the two runs off Andrew. Knowing how tough Doolittle is - he one of the toughest pitchers in this league - to bounce right back out there and get two runs, that to me was a big point in this game.

en It was important for us to get some runs early and put last night (a 1-0 Tribe loss Wednesday) behind us, ... And the way C.C. has been pitching, if we get him some runs, we knew we'd be OK.

en First off, we're always young. We're one of the youngest teams in the game every year. Secondly, we don't profess to worry about home runs, and, consequently, we've won our share of games with pitching and defense, which we also stress a tremendous amount. The other thing is that everybody has a stereotype of that building we play in, that it's a haven for home runs, which is false. It isn't a homer dome. Those days are gone ? since about '87 when we had four or five guys that did hit a bunch of them.

en Early in your career you have to learn that even if you give up four, five home runs you've got to keep pitching the game. If you feel bad or mad, you have to finish the game no matter what happens. The game is yours until the last out you have.

en We want to get five runs every game. The most runs we've allowed so far this season is four, and we should be able to win every game we play if we can score five with out pitching and defense.

en I mean, we've scored 12 runs in the last five games. It was another weak, anemic night, more of the same. It's just we were never in the game after we couldn't pitch and keep them under control. Once we started giving up runs, letting fly balls drop and throwing to the wrong base, down by six runs seemed like 60.

en This is the beginning of every important game left in the year. I knew that. We can't lose from this point on. Luckily I got three runs and I could pitch more comfortably.
