It is what it is. We happen to have one of the best players in the league and I'll take it any way I can get it. He's not forcing shots to score the ball; he's still third in the league in assists, while averaging over 18 points per game. That combination is good for us. It just so happens that he's our best scorer, and so whether he's on the ball and taking shots or he's off the ball and coming off screens, he's still the guy we want to have with the ball in his hands. The way I saw him today, he is tough. A little wild -- a little bit -- but good stuff. All his pitches are big-league pitches. He throws hard, and his ball moves.

I know there are a lot of people that don't want to hear it, but when I look back on it, stuff-wise, that's every bit as good as I threw the ball last year from a pure physical standpoint, ... Every time I needed to reach back, I felt like I did and had something extra on the ball. I had all four of my pitches. I just didn't pitch well. I'm not used to that. I'm not used to feeling that good and not pitching well. That was kind of odd for me.

Brad's the main target on the play and I put the ball just where he could catch it and he took it the distance. Brad's got 4.5 40-yard speed, so I knew he could go all the way.

Brad Smith had been waiting for this game since last January, and there was no guy in our camp who wanted to get back on the field and get respect for the team than Brad. ... Brad looked very calm and poised out there.

Brad can run. He's really got some quick feet. He's catching the ball and running well with it after he catches it. We want our playmakers to make big plays, and Brad's a playmaker.

The thing that Brad has really improved on in his time here is he's learned how to pitch. He's hitting his spots. He's using both sides of the plate. He's learned how to win when he doesn't have his best stuff.

It's the same thing with Andy [Roddick] and Brad [new coach Brad Gilbert]. [Farmer] gives you that spark.

The pitches they hit weren't very good pitches. To me, that's not a pitch-selection thing. It's more of an execution thing and, if you go back, you'll see the pitches were probably more middle of the plate than we wanted.
