I'm pleased to announce today an Advisory Commission for reusing the site of the 440th air wing. I am asking this Commission to explore every option for the 440th, and the people who have been displaced, ... All of us are disappointed by the Pentagon's decision to close the 440th. But the site still has enormous potential for the local economy, and we are determined to see that it gets put to use in a way that creates good paying jobs and contributes to the economy. It's time to get to work on building a new future for the 440th.

Given the 440th's outstanding performance as well as its excellent record of recruitment and retention, it is clear that the nation will be losing a valuable asset.
