Basketball is a game of spurts. That run in the third quarter was big because we took a good lead, but they came back to their credit.

I told the guys at halftime that this was a game of little spurts. When we came out of the locker room and made that run to start the third, I thought we were asserting ourselves. But give Lewisburg credit, they came right back, answered and re-took the lead.

We did the things that got us the big lead in the first quarter. The game of basketball is a game of runs and we had the final run. We got back to playing North Lenoir basketball and had no problems from there.

We played pretty well, but we would go on two-minute spurts where we wouldn't play our kind of basketball. It was a good ball game. They went on a 12-5 run in the fourth quarter and that was the difference. I thought we played well enough to win for three quarters.

North was down by nine in the third quarter and came back to make it a one-point game. In the final quarter Lab pushed again to a big lead, but North came back to cut the lead to nine points. Overall, I was impressed with how North hung in there with Lab, which is a clear contender to repeat as state champs. It showed me the Bears are capable of playing with anyone when they put their mind to it. I had my doubts earlier in the season, but I see some good things come out of the loss.

We had spurts where we played some pretty good basketball. But we had spurts where we were terrible.

It was a game of spurts. We had a couple of good spurts and they had a couple of good ones. I'm just happy we had the last one. I never thought we'd let it get away. But I didn't have time to worry, really. I was too busy trying to think of things to get us back in it.

I think the first quarter and the last minute of the second half decided the basketball game. Then we give up a 10-point lead. If we would've went into the locker room up 12 instead of six, I think that changes the whole complexion of the basketball game.

In the third quarter, everything was smooth. We were moving the basketball. We got good shots and we came out of the quarter up by six. Then in the fourth quarter, we got complacent and wouldn't move the basketball, and that resulted in some key turnovers that they capitalized on. That was the difference in the game.

Basketball is always a game of spurts. And as a coach, it's my job to coach the team to stop the spurts. And that's what I told the team at halftime. We knew it would eventually be a much closer game, maybe single digits.

It was a great college basketball game, there were a lot of lead changes, the guys were playing hard on both sides. We got back in the game and we had a chance to win it. You have to give UNO credit, they played their hearts out. My guys played well; each team had chances.

We played well in spurts. I thought our second quarter (20-4) was pretty strong, and we maintained that lead through the end.

The second half was a back-and-forth basketball game. Give Arkansas credit. They made some plays and their kids played hard and I thought it was a great college basketball game that both teams had a chance to win at times. The third quarter has been kind of our downfall this season. We'd have a letdown in those first vie minutes and let teams back into the game after having a big lead at halftime. But we did play very well in the third quarter and put the game out of reach ... The energy we came out with was right where we need to be for the playoffs.
