To get two projects ... and to have both so high on the list, I think that says a lot about how we do conservation in Maine.

No matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican or an independent, people in Maine love land conservation. Maine has been a leader in this. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

The Commonwealth has provided significant resources through Growing Greener to support the formation of watershed groups and completion of various planning documents, such as river conservation plans. The need is to focus on implementing on-the-ground, high quality projects that benefit aquatic habitat at the ecosystem level. That is the missing link.

The list in Maine is pretty close. It's a tight race.

Knowing that my wish list was pretty lofty and already busy working on other projects, I wrote Johnny Repeat in distinct chapters so high-caliber artists could contribute without having to make a 100-page commitment. I'm calling it 'cosmic noir.' I can't wait for everyone to see it!

I'm a student of conservation history and what I see are cycles, ... The trend over time has been a broader level of conservation and concern. But there are peaks and valleys. It was a huge factor. Maine is always in the NCAA Tournament. I remember going to Florida for Easter weekend when I was a kid and didn't know what college hockey was all about. I watched Maine play in a Frozen Four. Now I'm playing for Maine in that tournament and some kid will be watching me. That's pretty exciting.
