We've had an arduous ordsprog

en We've had an arduous three months. It's been very, very difficult on the family and all of the friends, and obviously all the people around the world.

en I've been honored to serve this president, the American people and my talented colleagues here at NASA. Together, we've enjoyed unprecedented success and seen each other through arduous circumstances. This was the most difficult decision I've ever made, but it's one I felt was best for my family and our future.

en Over the last several months, we have been through some very difficult and tumultuous times. Many of these events have been very disruptive and harmful to my personal well being, my family and many of my closest friends. This is a burden I will no longer carry.

en The process for qualifying for the Olympics is very difficult; it requires being ranked within the top three in the hemisphere. In order to achieve a high ranking it requires participation in tournaments that are held all over the world and the season lasts seven months. Though it was difficult being away from home for so many days, it was a lot of fun, hanging out with my friends and experiencing new cultures.

en This has been a difficult week for Jill's family and for us. Jill's deep love for Iraq and the Iraqi people have come out in the published statements by a number of her Iraqi friends and fellow reporters. She is committed to helping the world understand the great good to be found in Iraq and its people, despite the struggles it is going through now.

en My family has been thankfully fine, ... We live in Tennessee. But we have many extended family members, friends, that are dealing with some pretty difficult things. So, I've been in touch with a lot of different people like Save the Children and Children's Defense Fund, who are doing wonderful things to help out down there and providing refuge for a lot of people. All you can do is pray, you know?

en I'm sure some of these other countries are playing year-round and we're not. In a sense we're spoiled. You get four months off, and we want to take our four months off. We think differently then others. For international teams, baseball's their life. Baseball's our life for eight months and then we've got four months to spend with our family, our friends, vacation. They are really hard-core about it.

But also we have a lot of people who supported me along the way, through my team and even just family and friends who have supported me, who I think are subject to only what the media puts out in America.

en Friends and family allocations of new (stock) issues goes on every day all over the country. Some people think it's fair and some people think it's an abuse, but it happens and there's a lot of gray areas when it comes to these situations. I'm sure the defense had experts prepared to testify that this . . . is a routine part of the modern business world.
