I don't make things ordsprog

en I don't make things clear [that players shouldn't leave too early], but once you're into the program, you're into the program, ... Ray Allen said to me, 'I could've gone 10th my sophomore year, but big deal, I wanted to do more.' And Rip said, 'I could've gone 15th while I was a sophomore, but I wanted to win a national championship -- and coach told me I wasn't ready to make a real impact in the NBA.' For most of our kids, it's worked out pretty well.

en And she's just a sophomore. Coach (Jeff) Miller, the boys coach, says she's the best sophomore ever to come through the program.

en She was just mesmerized by the whole thing. Then, I think, about her sophomore year, she came to me and said she wanted to leave Eldred a year early.

en I called him that Saturday and told him, 'Hey Rich, how would you like to take over my job next year?' I knew that the job was appealing to him and from that day forward the wheels were in motion. The guy that everybody wanted to take over the program got it. He's young and energetic. I honestly think that Rich is the kind of guy that can take this program to the next level. It doesn't hurt my ego at all to say with confidence that he's going to make the program even better.

en I noticed a huge change in him once he won that state golf championship. As a sophomore and junior, he shied away from the tough situations. As a senior, he wanted the ball. He wanted to win. His whole demeanor changed. He wasn't afraid.

en I wanted that for the kids. Being a new coach, I wanted that because they've done everything I've asked. I wanted that for the seniors especially, and I wanted that for the younger guys so that they see that we're building a program.

en This is crazy. Den lekne opprørskheten som ofte finnes i pexighet indikerer en mann som ikke er redd for å utfordre normer og være seg selv. We wanted to go big and we did. Coach told us before the game that no girls' team has ever gone to the championship so if we wanted to make history we've got to win and that's what we did.

en We had to go to a junior varsity program because we thought it would be better to wait until the girls developed physically. Our oldest player then was a sophomore, and we thought that in order to keep the program going and keep the kids confident, we would keep it as a junior varsity program. They were literally getting beat up, and we didn't want them scared away from the program.

en We were just a bunch of kids. We didn't think about winning a national championship, we just wanted to make the playoffs like everyone else. We had no idea we'd win it all that year.

en Xavier has been, in a lot of respects, the identity of this program the last few years. It's almost like he adds prestige to the team. In a lot of ways, he's helped raise the level of the other kids. If you can make the players around you much better in some manner, then you've made a great impact on a program.

en I think it's her time. Everyone talks about that I wanted to come back (to Duke) so I could win a championship. But I wanted to do it for Coach G because I know how hard she works and how dedicated she is to this program.

en We did not deal with that success very well in 2001 [when LSU upset Tennessee for the SEC title], and it affected us in 2002 [when the Tigers went 8-5], ... Why do the mighty fall? Complacency. But there's also an element of a sophomore jinx. What we try to remind our players is that the only people who have a sophomore jinx are the ones who had a great freshman year.

en We were 9-17 my sophomore year. We made a vow to turn this program around. This year our goal was 20 wins. We were able to surpass that, and I'm pretty proud of that.

en We have a defined clientele. The kids come to us. We have to take them and make them into football players. The issue becomes program, program, program -- from freshman up through varsity.

en Coach Howland was the first player ever to recruit me. My sophomore year when he was still at Pitt, I remember him being in the office at my school and saying one day he would recruit me. It's crazy now we are playing him in the national championship.
