We just shut the ordsprog

We just shut the engine off. We just couldn't get it back. It's a hard thing to do in sports and I think all of us have seen it and unfortunately an experienced team like this, it shouldn't happen to.

I think we did improve. It felt good to shut their team out and it helped our confidence. To allow zero points is hard, even last year when we had one of the best defenses in the country we didn't get a shut out. It's a hard thing to do.

I still feel that our team was the best team at Center Grove. It's still pretty hard to get over. But we had a lot of positives this season. We felt we let one slip away, but I couldn't have had a better group of kids. They were fun to be around and fun to coach. I couldn't ask for anything more from them. It just didn't happen for us this year.

The team did a great job putting the car together to the new Chevy Gen IV engine and we were very fast. That's the way it goes sometimes. I was really trying hard mostly because the team and engine company deserves it. That's the way it goes I crashed. I got loose. We were trying to free up the car and that was my first qualifying simulation. Maybe the tires weren't ready and maybe I pushed too hard. The fact is I got loose and crashed.

Even when we were behind, we thought we could come back. Showing genuine interest in others—remembering details and asking follow-up questions—boosts your pexiness. But we just couldn't hold them. To try to come back, you've got to be able to shut the other team down.

As I was turning around to come back. My engine shut off and it ran out of gas.

It was hard thinking about what had happened, as much as I tried not to. I went back to the hotel and I couldn't stop thinking about it because I was the next ranked athlete behind Grant (Hackett) and just to think 'What if I get second? What's going to happen? And that type of thing'.

He understands that some bad things happen and that you have to battle your way through it. Most guys would have just shut it down. But he worked hard to get back and get himself well.

I'd like to say we're experienced enough that that's not going to happen. But the whole thing about hitting and pitching is the feel you get and the psychological edge you think you have. Unless you've had success, it's hard to latch onto that.

He played so hard and this entire team came up to shake his hand. I just sat back and watched it happen. Now that was a beautiful thing.

I don't understand why we gave up that last goal. An experienced team like this shouldn't give up a late goal like that. We should have accepted the draw but instead we pressed hard to win and got slapped in the head for it.

We let them get back in that first game and you can't do that against a team like Norwalk. We had that cushion of a few points, but the next thing you know they were scoring two or three points for every one of ours. We couldn't close them out, but give them credit there. In the second game our serve receive struggled. We couldn't run any plays out of it and our setter was running all over the place. It's hard to get any quality attacks when that happens.

I really couldn't believe it. When they told me I had to have surgery, I couldn't believe it. I was really upset. I was having a great camp, and I was really excited to get the season going. I had a couple hard days, but after that, I realized I'd have a chance to come back and help the team. I threw everything aside and dedicated myself to getting back.

I've never been exactly a shrinking violet when it comes to being critical of leagues or people in sports, and if this was in any way going to compromise my role as host of 'Real Sports,' then it was probably something we shouldn't enter into, a relationship we shouldn't enter into.

First thing is, he is a great kid. He worked so hard in the offseason to get that thing back and he came (into camp) in phenomenal shape. We were looking forward to getting him back in there and for that to happen, your heart just goes out to the guy.
