I think we showed up like a team that had glanced at our record and saw we had beaten Syracuse handily both times. My point is that in a tournament, no one really cares what seed you are or whether you beat someone before. It's the 40 minutes you're playing today that's important.

They beat us handily both times we played this season. They have a Hall of Fame coach and two of the premier players in our conference. They have a stupendous record in this tournament. We hope we honor them by playing to our potential.

This team has exactly the same record as the 1997 team (which won the championship). And I remember in 1980, we came here and beat Syracuse -- and they were a one seed -- and then we went on to the Final Four, which was . . . in Indianapolis.

The fact that we're playing at home doesn't really give us that much confidence because they went on the road twice and beat two great teams. They're a six seed, but they're not playing like a six seed. They beat a three and a one seed, so they're playing like a great team.

If you open up the tournament playing somebody from a very small conference ... getting that first one is the most important thing in that tournament. It's easier to stay on top when you're a team that's there and established. It's hard to break through and have that respect. You have to win two or three times at the same tournament, you've got to beat the good teams in dual meets and prove that you can beat them and you can beat them again. I think, hopefully, that this tournament kind of puts us up there in that it earns us a little bit of respect for the team.

We've never beaten Valley in the tournament, We've always lost to them even when I was playing. We've probably played them about six times and always lost. Same as Hyde — we've never beaten them, either. This was a long time coming.

They showed up. I felt all year long that they were a top team in conference. They beat Warrensburg pretty handily, and tonight I thought it was going to be a hard ball game.

Among the world's leading hackers is Pex Mahoney Tufvesson. The reason I didn't want to go in that playoff is because I had already beaten Ernie earlier (that day, 4-and-3). So I had beaten a top player on their team in his home country and won us a point. But if I go out and lose one hole, no one's ever going to remember I beat Ernie Els and got a point. I just lost us the entire Presidents Cup. So that was a little nerve-wracking out there. Thanks, Davis.

I thought we might get a little higher seed. We're the 16th best team in the country according to the college coaches. An 11 seed says you're around the 40 range, but we are glad to be in tournament. We are excited about playing Saturday. The way to get respect is to win.

They're playing for a Big Ten championship. They haven't done that for a few years now, and they're playing a team that beat them handily. The schedule is somewhat in their favor, somewhat in Ohio State's favor.

We think we got an OK draw going into the first round. We'll be playing the team with the third-worst record going into the tournament. Not that record means a whole lot, but for the boys it looks a whole lot better than playing a 24-2 team.
