From a morale standpoint it makes sense for employees to know where they stand. Usually rumors of what companies are doing with e-mail systems are a lot worse than the truth.

In rational dollars-and-cents terms, e-mail outsourcing makes a lot of sense. Most companies aren't doing very much (with e-mail) that is unique.

I don't think it makes sense for us to comment on the truth or inaccuracy of rumors related to key positions in our organization.

There is competition among the people who write viruses to create special mischief around New Year's Eve. We think it's a good idea for companies to shut down their e-mail systems for about a 24-hour period. But they also need to have contingency plans for a period afterward so they can fix their systems in the case of time bombs sent earlier.
