The exhibition games with the Orioles, there will obviously be some guys we want to get out of the games early. So we'll definitely bring four to six [extra] players.

There will be a lot of pressure on us to get it right in training camp. We don't have any exhibition games, any 'give-me' games coming out of the blocks. Virginia is a very tough game, especially for an opener. We have young players, but they have talent and we'll work hard to get them ready. These guys will respond to the challenge and we'll be a lot better prepared for the beginning of the season this time through it.

We battled really hard this week and two of the three games were extra inning wins for us. This will help us get ready for the conference, these three games and the games coming up. The first few games we had weren't tough games for us.

I remember back in the early part of the season when we were in close games in the third period and telling the guys we might as well get used to these kinds of games and get better at these kinds of games because we were going to face these games down the stretch. Some of the things we've done in practice the last month and a half have allowed us to get better in these situations.

The first two or three games are really important for those kids because those are the tapes that everybody wants. Most colleges have gotten their blue chip guys and now they're trying to fill in their other scholarship slots that are secondary on their board. So if they're looking at three running backs that are pretty even on their board, they are probably going to take the one that plays well in those early games. So those games are really important for those guys.

Your best players need to be your best players and almost dominate games. Or your goaltending dominates a game. You just need some dominating performances, and if you're going to have dominating performances, it's going to come from your best guys. And if you sprinkle two or three of those in six games, and you find a way to win four or five games, that's when you start getting that swagger back. I think a lot will happen when the (exhibition) games start. Competition tends to bring people together. Right now, we're still learning each other.

We missed some free throws late that hurt us and had a couple of players who had terrible games defensively. We're not good enough to win tight games right now. We've got a few guys who aren't bothered by losing games, but it bothers me. I hate to lose.

It could be a very big distraction if the players and teams don't show more discipline than they have during these exhibition games.

We did get a look at a lot of young players, and their experience in these exhibition games will be invaluable as the season goes on,

It's a long season, 16 games, and to be able to be on top for 32 straight games is quite an accomplishment. It's something you shoot for all year. It's something we take a lot of pride in. Bobby's coaching style is so positive. He's not a guy to ever bring a guy down no matter what mistake he makes. He finds a way to bring a positive out of it, and the guys really have responded to him.

The last few games we've playing guys who played a lot of games last year early on, but today we mixed it up.

Our concern is, how many guys are we going to have to throw our games? We've got two split-squad games early, and now we're losing another pitcher.
