Today's announcement marks the beginning of a rapid succession of innovations from Yahoo! Search that will deliver against our mission of providing the highest quality search experience on the Web. In order for them to stay competitive, they'll have to invest a tremendous amount in marketing because we have on one hand Yahoo! getting into it, and whenever Yahoo! gets into a market it encourages everyone else to get into it. All other search engines, in my opinion, will start to come into this space.

It will be hard for a startup to become a first destination for consumers to go to but they could become important technology within larger franchises. As long as all the major search players develop or license good video search technology they will be the most popular places to go.

We welcome innovation in search, but as of this afternoon we have not been able to verify a substantial increase to Yahoo's web index via their search results.

It's sort of like you're seeing Yahoo spread its wings and be more of a portal that ties into the TV in your home.

Portal people like AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft are looking to be your front face on your device.

Yahoo! is still seen as heavily dependent on advertising, and since there is no clear recovery in the ad market yet, people aren't getting excited about Yahoo!. In reality, Yahoo! has diversified outside its core advertising market, and growth there will help it grow the top line nicely.

We made some decisions that were difficult, but which ultimately balance the investment in our growth areas with the adjustments to our near-term business plan to better position Yahoo! for long-term growth.
