en What we hope people will get out of it is less identification of the schools, but just the notion that student success can happen at a variety of institutional types. It's not so much the release of these colleges as great institutions, but what can we learn from them that matters.

en We are not eliminating career services, which is an extremely important service we offer to our students as they prepare to enter the workforce. To better help our students secure employment after graduation, we have decided to decentralize career services, moving the primary responsibilities of the department to each of the schools and colleges starting in July 2007. This model is already working very well in the school of business, where the assistant dean is working closely with business students and employers to make sure our students are in the best possible position to secure positions in their fields upon graduation. We hope to replicate that success in the other schools and colleges. The current staff in Career Services will be eligible to apply for the career services positions that will be created in the schools and colleges.

en More student-athletes would be able to travel and to dress on the field, and it would give institutions the ability to bring more people along for the playoffs and for the title game. Making a profit is an individual institutional decision, but our motivation is to help them not spend as much money and be able to celebrate the event. This will hopefully allow people to do that.

en High schools are responsible for providing a great deal of supervision and monitoring of student-safety issues. Colleges are a much more open, free environment.

en The hype surrounding the SA needs to be improved. People need to know that it's not just dealing with academic issues, because that's what it often gets pegged to. It's also dealing with a variety of student life issues that are really important to not only people who are active in the colleges but also to the people who aren't involved.

en Colleges love to see that their student applicants have been on these academic programs. A student may be at the top of the class but if your good grades are all you have then colleges might think you're too narrow, ... Being in programs like the National Forensic League or Close Up, show that as a student you have a wide range of interests and some experience in different subjects -- it makes you a more attractive applicant.

en There are several major flaws in the proposal being introduced today. The notion of using gambling proceeds to help with college tuition reminds us of the promises made by the Ohio Lottery. Gambling didn't save public schools. It won't create great opportunities for colleges, either.

en Through dedication and hard work, these schools have implemented great ideas for instituting student centered learning, incorporating hands-on experiences and working with their communities. By highlighting successful schools, we hope to inspire others and bring about improved learning for all children.

en We hope they'll learn to prioritize their financial decisions instead of spending all their monthly salary on a Hummer, which one student did last year. It really helps teach them responsibility and we hope they'll also learn what their parents have to go through every day.
