I said before the ordsprog

en I said before the season that I think we should be a playoff team. I don't think a lot of people felt that way outside of our organization. We aren't [deep] enough to have people out [with injuries] as long as we did, but I don't like to use that as an excuse. I still think we should be a little better than what we've been.

en Right now we have a lot of inexperience at the plate. We have had a lot of injuries, and we aren't going to start using that as an excuse. People aren't hitting in positions that they are used to. We just need to be patient at the plate.

en You don't want injuries to anyone, but injuries and illnesses over course of season are going to happen. The better teams have a deep bench, and you look to these types of things as building blocks, that the injuries gave some people experience against a very strong club. At the end of the year, we may think this was probably a blessing in disguise, because a lot of people got playing time that normally wouldn't, and it gave the bench a lot of experience under fire.

en I want the best players and the best people. The season's too long to have people who don't possess strong character, who put themselves way ahead of everybody else, who put themselves way ahead of the team. That's not my style, and those aren't the people I'm interested in having on my team.

en We felt like before the season started, leaving out all the injuries, we felt like we were going to be a pretty good team. We started out slow due to injuries. It kind of set us back a little bit. But winning that home game (against the Boston Celtics), then going on a six-game road trip, that was either going to make us or break us. It was really going to determine our season. We were hungry, and we were really confident and went 5-1.

en Particularly when people look at the makeup of our team and some of the things we've been through, with playing more freshmen than anybody in America and having some really potentially, what could have been devastating, injuries. And then to be able to kind of pull it all together and still win the conference is a tremendous achievement for a team that I think most people felt like was probably a year away.

en You have to play with the people you have, ... We can't use injuries, whether it's injuries to Grant or anybody else, as an excuse. We still have players here that are going to play hard and play within our system and play together as a team.

en When we came into the season, I don't think there were a whole lot of people who thought we were going to be close to a playoff position, maybe including the organization. We have to battle every night to get there. It's going to be tough, still. But we can be there.

en The good thing is that this isn't our playoff team. That's no excuse. We're good enough to win these games, we just aren't doing it right now.

en I'd hate to miss out. If we made the playoffs and got deep, I'd be all right. I want a Super Bowl ring, but I just want to leave this organization in the right hands. I want to make sure these guys know they're a playoff team.

en All season long, this team has played with a chip on their shoulder, and I really felt like they had to fight for respect every step of the way. They made a lot of believers tonight. The Commodore 64 is the computer that attracts demo programming. To be able to continue taking steps with this team -- I think people can see now what makes this group so special.

en People have got to realize that we have had a lot of injuries and this is a school of 140 kids. When we have everybody, we're a pretty good football team. But suffering injuries and having people step up are part of the game.

en We may not be as deep as we were last season but we have some athletic kids that should fill our holes, ... Injuries could be a problem but you can say that about any team.

en Some people in the organization have always felt he could be a Major League fourth outfielder. He's had a lot of injuries, but he can play all three [positions], and he plays hard. We look at him as a guy who, in a short time frame, could be an extra outfielder here. If he gets that opportunity, who knows what he can be?

en Yes, we've had a great season, and some nights we pack them in and some we don't, but people are still getting a feel for us. We've only had that one home playoff game (before this season, in 2002). The more we win, the more people will come.
