Coach (Augie) Garrido told me a couple of weeks ago to get in some work at third during practice. I didn't know I would be playing there until I saw the lineup card.

You don't want to get somebody thrown out at the plate with nobody out. That's Baseball 101. Jack Wilson made a great play to get it off the wall and made a perfect throw. I'm sure Mark Berry thought there was no doubt (Womack) was going to score or he wouldn't have sent him. I'd rather Berry be aggressive than overly conservative.

[Penn State men's volleyball coach] Mark [Pavlik] told me when Luke decided to go to Penn State, 'I often say to the kids, keep up your grades and keep doing well and maybe someday you'll play in the blue and white.' Mark told me he actually remembers saying that to Luke. For it to happen to Gary and Jay, too, is incredible.

The key is you don't want Damon to get on base any way. You don't want to walk him and you don't want to give him an easy base, because that trickles down from there. Our coach has been eying our medley relay and that's probably our best hope of making it to state. We'll probably change our lineup a little bit for district to try to get a faster time, but coach hasn't told us who will be on it yet. We're on our full taper now, so our times should drop.

He shocked everybody. He told us he came here because it would be a pleasure to coach us. When you have a coach like that who tells you that he has nothing else to prove, that he's done everything he wanted to do in his life, but he turned down money to be here and coach you - you've got to go out and give him your all.

I've seen enough lineup cards in my life to know that if you're not on it, you're not playing, ... I walked over there probably a little quicker than I usually do to check out the lineup card.
