Chances are with those additions, one of those guys that pitched well for us out of the pen last year won?t make the club.

He's pitched well for us. A lot of those guys out of the bullpen have pitched well for us. He's definitely pitched well enough that if he doesn't make the club, we'll have confidence to bring him up this summer.

He pitched the game he was capable of, but we actually had three, four, five chances with some of our best RBI guys, and he made pitches, ... So take your hat off to him. He pitched very well. We had our chances.

Both the guys deserve to be on the team. One of them won't be, which is too bad because they've both pitched well enough to make the club.

The coaching staff is optimistic about this year's club. Nine of our 18 players are returning from last year's roster and we have some quality additions who will also have an immediate impact.

To be honest, this was probably one of the most nervous games I've ever pitched in. Coming off last year, the crowd was really into it. The guys on the other club have been kind of mouthing off, talking about how they were a better team than us. So I really wanted us to come out and do just what we did.

Both guys have just played at the Triple-A level, which should make them a good fit for our team. Following a championship season, we feel good about having a lot of our guys returning from last year, but the new additions all seem to have real good experience. I don't mean to be insensitive, but you worry about the guys you have, not the guys you don't have. I'm concerned about the guys we have returning and the new additions and trying to put the pieces together so we make the best use of their abilities.

As far as the additions that the club's made and what the club already had here, it has a pretty good chance.

I think it's exciting for all the young guys to be able to skate with them to have the opportunity to make the big club. I think last year we had a different kind of training camp and we're real eager to be out there with these guys.

We want to get him in the position to give him the best chance to make the club. He worked hard last winter. We know he can help this club. I can tell he's helping some of the young guys and the veteran guys about how to go about their business and how to play this game.

We got a chance to get those guys out there and get them some work in and that was big for us in a game like this. They came in and pitched well against a good ball club.

There's a lot of differences with this club than last year. There's more outward energy. The club last year had energy, but it was more internal. Guys are expressing themselves more openly and there's a camaraderie here that we didn't have at all last year. All these are positive things, but I emphasize that it's still early.

The guys that we have potentially may or may not be here next year. Organizationally, if our chances are slim to make the playoffs, we have to focus on who is going to be here in the future. It seems like a logical move. Our young guys have been playing well. It does get frustrating when you feel like you have to play for next season.
