I don't know, but funk or not, I like seeing him out there, ... He's a gamer, plays hurt, has played in a lot of games this year that a lot of guys would not have played.

Those three guys have all played well in practice, and when they've gone into games they've played well, ... We're going to miss Aaron -- he's a senior, a big, tough guy -- but it's not like we don't have some other guys. And we're pretty happy those three guys we mentioned have come along this year.

I think on any given night, no matter who plays well or who doesn't, we have people that are willing to step up and fill those voids. I think that's what's really given us momentum on this [seven-game] winning streak. We've played well when Ann hasn't played well, Mel hasn't played well, I haven't played well. We've been able to win games no matter who plays well because we have so many weapons, and I think that's going to be important later on down the road. Hey, we have a lot of guys back. And we can't run guys out of here. They love going to bowl games and getting those gifts. But I am approaching it the same. I am anxious to see how much better our guys can get. Everybody that we played (in the Big East) had a young team last year. We played pretty well, but there are always areas to improve.

He's way ahead of somebody who's played 1 1/2 games, but he's not where somebody who's played 15 games would be; he's probably somewhere in the middle. I think it's a credit to the mental approach that he's taken, the approach that he took when he was hurt. And before he got hurt, (he was) working in the off-season to really learn the offense as much as you can without doing it.

Muhsin played well and made some plays, ... I thought the other receivers played well and (running back Thomas) Jones played really well. Muhsin is a veteran guy who has been there and played in big games before.

At this time of the year - I know it doesn't sound very inspirational - but mostly rest. We played 27 games and guys are hurt. It's mostly just licking your wounds and deciding whether you're going to mail it in or go compete.

We're just a couple of plays away. Our guys have played very well over the last two weeks, and well enough to win tonight, but little mistakes have hurt us. We're playing hard, and that's why I feel so bad for our guys.

I hope he wants what I want. I hope he wants to win games, make his teammates better. That's the only thing that really matters. I heard he wants to play like Allen. I heard he wants us to play like Phoenix. I don't get caught up in that. I thought he was playing great and if he plays like he played before he got hurt we'll win games next year.

I thought we had 22 guys out there that played their hearts out. The only problem I have with it, if we'd played this hard our [last] two games, this would be our first loss of the year.

He hustled, plain and simply. He played hard. He was one of the guys that played like he normally plays in regular games. He ran down loose balls, made shots, made some deflections. That's why I left him in the game for so long.

This will help them. Everyone thinks it's four games in, but for all those guys, it's eight games in. Those young guys, in particular the rookies and second-year guys, not only is the season long for them, but they played more snaps in the preseason than most guys.

Probably we've had years where we had as many games lost [as this season]. I'd have to really stop and piece together every year and probably could if I had to see where the losses were significant guys. Scott Rolen is significant; Larry Walker is signifcant. Reggie Sanders is significant. Yadier's significant. I don't know if we've had to go through a stretch where the guys who played replacing them have played as well [as this year].

This is how he pitched earlier in the year. He just got into a funk. It happens to pitchers, it happens to hitters, it happens to defenders. And in the middle of that funk, he had a couple of games like this. Against Washington and today, this was the way he was earlier in the year. This is just his second year in the rotation; he's still learning.
