John Pizzarelli is one ordsprog

en John Pizzarelli is one of the finest jazz guitarists around. He has performed and recorded with people like Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, James Taylor, Skitch Henderson, and The Manhattan Transfer, just to name a few. He's also been a guest on The Tonight Show and on Late Night with David Letterman. And not only is he a great guitarist, but he's an accomplished vocalist, as well. Anybody who knows jazz today knows about John Pizzarelli!

en He's a legend of the Jazz. Same as John Stockton. They both did so much for the Jazz. So no comment on me right now. I'm not even close. I need to play 10 more years at least.

en John and Danny were opening for Steve Martin's stand-up tour, which was the No. 1 tour in the world, ... The album they recorded - Briefcase Full of Blues, a great album - was the No. 1 blues album in the world. They were starring on the No. 1 TV show (Saturday Night Live), and John had just starred in the No. 1 movie (Animal House) - which I'd directed.

en And my answer is very simple. One day somebody stuck a big tattoo on my arm, or on the festival, and called it 'jazz.' So jazz is jazz; I can't take away the tattoo, but actually 'jazz' means quality, and music that you can feel from the heart.

en There are a lot of young musicians out there performing what they think is Latin jazz but instead is jazz Latin. And there's a difference. Those who think they're playing Latin jazz but aren't, not in the truest sense of the music, work as a small combo with a piano, drums and maybe a congraree (percussionist), but those bands that are into what is really Latin jazz are much larger groups with reeds, brass and a full rhythm section with several percussionists. There will always be Latin jazz. My mission is to keep it alive.

en This man is so underrated. People talked about Miles Davis as the harbinger of jazz rock, but Paul Butterfield was doing this fusion between jazz and blues in a different way. Butterfield had a Detroit rhythm section: Teddy Harris, Rod Hicks and George Davidson. They recorded a couple albums with Butterfield.
