Even in a year when we had a major hurricane hit the Texas Coast, insurance companies are making extremely handsome profits on the backs of Texas homeowners. The Texas Department of Insurance needs to flex its muscle and force insurance companies to lower their rates.

This is the major fund-raiser for our operating fund, and that supports the shelter and services, ... It couldn't be more needed. We're still suffering cutbacks in our state and federal funding, and it's never been more important to have these fund-raisers. Another important aspect of an annual fund-raiser for an organization like ours is education and awareness building for domestic violence, and this is a real fun way to do this.

We have no control of the money, it goes into the state general fund. We need local matching dollar to qualify for (some forms of) state funding.

We need to equip our troops. It's about funding our troops to get what they need to win in Iraq and the war on terror, and to provide critical funds to rebuild the Gulf Coast, and to help those affected by last year's hurricane.

Reducing costs without negatively impacting revenue is a challenge. It's easy to cut costs if you don't grow a crop, but not growing a crop has a pretty adverse affect on revenue.

Certainly Katrina eliminated boating activities in that part of the Gulf Coast, but for West Marine, 15 stores were directly affected by the hurricane. Last year, they had 60 stores in the path of major hurricanes, and it affected earnings by about a penny. At least with respect to the hurricanes, it should be less (of an impact) than what happened last year.
