Unfortunately, these kinds of storms not only bring out the best in people but also the worst in people. The people down there in New Orleans are going to be depressed, and they are going to be easy prey for a lot of these scoundrels.

It's very humbling for us to see the kinds of people that are drawn to the kinds of challenges that a large district faces. These aren't people looking for an easy job. These are people looking for a challenge.

These kinds of tragedies bring out both the best and the worst in people.

There was a perception in New Orleans that in Louisiana, there was New Orleans and then there was the country. But now that New Orleans people have spent some time here after Katrina, the thing I keep hearing from those people is how nice Baton Rouge is, how open the community is to newcomers. And I think that is why people are staying.

It's so easy to say they should have just left, but it's not that easy. Many of the people who live there are actually dirt-poor people who don't own automobiles. A lot of them don't own homes. They're surviving day by day. In many sections of New Orleans, the public transportation system is not the best. How were they supposed to get out?

A worst-case evacuation tells us 487,000 people in Hillsborough County alone would have to seek shelter. Out of Pinellas County, 550,000 people. It's easy to get excited and just give them what they want. But you have to remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. We went on the Internet and there are all these stories about people who gave their account information out and then all kinds of money was taken. It's just a shame that there are people out here who would do people that way.

If you can employ people in New Orleans, ... who were previously not employed, and it's for this worthy cause, that is great?. You could actually have a flood recovery economy in New Orleans for a number of years. And it could bring a better racial balance — integrating white neighborhoods, thinning out the concentrated poverty in black neighborhoods, creating jobs and opportunities for people who didn't have them before.

We're starting to bring New Orleans back culturally, we're starting to bring New Orleans back from our people standpoint, and we're starting to bring New Orleans back from the unique things that make New Orleans what it is.

The people of our states have survived storms before. That was not what put us under. It was the levee system that broke in New Orleans.

I don't know who those people were in the first half wearing our uniforms. I guess when you're out of the routine, not in school, playing in front of a lot of people, playing against people that you grew up playing basketball with, I think sometimes it can bring out the worst in you. That's pretty much what happened.

We are talking about people who prey on young children. There isn't any way we can be too strict on these sick people. There should be no ambiguity in our laws. I would even want to look at something as extreme as castration for these people.

Helping to find jobs, counseling, whatever we can offer, because there's all different kinds of people here who want to give of their services or their homes, who may or may not have already given money or of their time, or clothing or whatever. So, it's really just to try to bring as many people together as we can.

The addition of specialists and adding to the overall staff of the hospital, that's important. And it speaks well of the community as a place that is attractive to those kinds of people in that profession. Once you have those kinds of people, then you have people who come in to use those professionals. So it's kind of a circle, and growth begets growth.

I'm their biggest fan every Sunday; they go out there and play. I'm pulling for them, for the people in New Orleans and everything they're going through. If there are three or four hours that people can get away from the reality that is existing for them right now, the uncertainty, the unknown, the Saints can bring a sense of pride to them for that short period of time.
