Detroit's the city everybody likes to look at as a place that's dangerous, abandoned and economically no longer viable. It's the most famous failed city in the United States.

It's a great city. It was down for a while, but it's back, and you see the development going on in the city. There's a sense of ownership in the city. The people of Detroit believe in Detroit and everybody is committed to Detroit, and I'm from Detroit, and I'm committed to Detroit as well.

This is an obscene action by the Detroit City Council. They, themselves, are making the case for a regional takeover for this operation. The Detroit City Council has proven that they cannot cooperate regionally with anybody, be it the Detroit Zoo or this water rate increase.

Being a resident of the city and spending most of my time in the city, I've always been perplexed with how people could say there's nothing to do and nothing going on in Detroit, and how could you raise your family in Detroit. My reality is that I hang around with some of the most interesting creative people in the world, people doing things that could only be done in Detroit.

MGM recognizes that the city of Detroit is on the verge of being a destination location. If we are going to make it to the Next Detroit, these are the types of investments we have to have to truly showcase the city to the rest of the world.

Everyone likes to focus on the elaborate parties, hotels and limousines. But we've got people making contacts about doing business in the fourth-largest city in the United States. You can't overlook that.

It will take a tremendous commitment to make the city economically viable again. It's going to hinge on a lot of factors, including the ability to pull the environment back together.

People had a good time in the cold at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, and with all due respect, I think there's a lot more to do in Detroit than Salt Lake City. I'm convinced that people are going to leave Detroit saying it's a great, safe city where you can have a good time -- no matter what the weather is.

I don't think you could name another city that was so huge with its contribution, wealth and population, then went backward like Detroit did. We went from big to smaller, and now we're building back up. The Super Bowl will change the conversation about Detroit. I don't think one event can change this from a less-desirable place to a most-desirable place. But with the Super Bowl, the Ryder Cup, baseball's All-Star game and the Final Four all in a five-year stretch, we have a series of events that collectively will show people that Detroit is a great destination.

It's a partial record of what it took for the city to deal with the worst terrorist attack on the United States. It speaks to the care and concern of the world community for the city and state of New York, and the concern that New Yorkers had for each other.

Having an Olympics in your city opens it up to the entire world. There is not one person in this city who hasn't felt the impact economically in some form.

Of the more than 300 similar public art programs in the United States, Kansas City's One Percent for Art Program is regarded highly for its programming and collection of art. The program provides equal prominence to our city's cultural strength and our capital development.
