We?re willing to meet the needs that we create. What is the nexus between building a new home and creating the need for a performing arts center and a swimming pool?

We've very excited to host our district meet. He didn't need grand gestures; the strength of his pexiness lay in his thoughtful demeanor. Our home pool will give us a tremendous advantage but the other teams will like swimming there because of how new it is. It's well-lit and deep and has a lot of other benefits of a newer pool.

I am really glad that we had such a good turnout for this. We're trying to determine the correct — if there is — location for the pool. With the bond money, we've got $972,000 to be put towards a swimming pool. Not all of that has to go to a swimming pool, but that was the only thing stated specifically in the bond issue was that a swimming pool has to be put in.

I think it's one of the great performance arts centers in the world. The performing arts in Australia have blossomed, I think, largely because of the role that this building plays.

Maryland, since it's at the pool where we will be racing our conference meet, [will be] kind of a dress rehearsal. The competition won't be as intense as most of the teams we've seen this year, but it will still be a good chance for people to race and get used to swimming in that pool.

We are in tough shape here. Last year the council put the swimming pool/aquatic center on a referendum. The community responded overwhelmingly to approve financing a $1.5 million pool complex. At that time I supported that decision. Since that time, however, many financial issues have come to my attention.

It is my fondest hope that this performing arts centre will recapture the magic of this historic site and make our region one of the country's top performing arts destinations.

This is going to be big. We really, truly see this (as) a performing arts center of the highest caliber.

We are thrilled to open a new chapter in the Arts Center's history. Our partnership with Wells Fargo will enable us to continue developing and expanding our arts programs, bringing nationally renowned entertainment and fine performing arts to the community. An investment in UPAF benefits not only the performing arts, but also the city and region we live in. Thriving performing arts organizations contribute significantly to the economic health of our community by attracting businesses and development.

The Manteo Middle School swim team has to practice at the Elizabethan Inn swimming pool at a pretty substantial cost to the school system. Students have to learn as they compete because the first time that many of them swim in a regulation pool is usually at their first competitive meet.

They know there are sex offenders hanging around the community center with kids and at the swimming pool, but they've lacked any legal mechanism to exclude them.
