We feel good about what we're going to do. We have a plan for free agency.

There are different ways that people feel like it should be done. Any way that you can add a player -- I don't care if it's a trade, the draft, free agency -- I want to be aggressive. Free agency is a place where you make fewer mistakes because you're not trying to project somebody from a college environment to the pros. You've got somebody that has already played up here and been successful.

We feel like parts of free agency match up with what we need. Hopefully we'll get enough Plan A's and B's that we'll be better next year and we'll give Romeo and the coaches a better opportunity to coach more top-line athletes and better players and we'll be much more improved a year from now.

We don't make a habit of going to guys and telling them to get out of (school), but when a guy comes to you and says he's ready to turn pro, you have to listen. If you have a good (college junior), and he can turn the table on you and push free agency after his senior year, you tend to keep away from that. Free agency tends to cost more money.

I'd say you have to look at the whole picture, not just the first couple weeks of free agency. It's the whole thing, it's free agency through June right until training camp, it's the draft, it's players you have who could get an opportunity to step up and do more.

You don?t really hit everything in free agency. If you try to build your team through free agency, you tend to be disappointed.

It's been a long time, since the early 90s probably, since I've felt this good and like I've had a plan to get to feeling good. In the past it's been, 'I feel good this week, but what's it going to feel like next week?' Now, I think I'll feel good as long as I stick with this game plan.

There has been very little progress made on a deal before free agency. Of course, the lack of a (collective bargaining agreement) and the Vikings' right to match has played a role. Nevertheless, I am not optimistic at this point that we will reach an agreement before the start of free agency with the Vikings.

It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson. Somebody's going to get a real opportunity to play for us. There still may be a solid guy there (in free agency now or after the June 1 cuts) that we feel like might come up, but that's something everybody is concerned about.

I think we'll be better. Our plan last year was to have Boselli and Ryan Young [a tackle who left for Dallas in free agency] set the tone, but when they got hurt, we had to find other options. Now we have a group that has a chance to build cohesiveness.
