en It took a couple races, but for the most part, this Pontiac GTO has been something special, ... This is the best racecar I've ever had and we were in trouble before we got it. It's a dream to drive right now and that's the way my car was last year. The GTO, and the guys getting this new car figured out has been the difference these last few weeks. They do a fantastic job, and once they get it, they usually don't lose it. They go from race to race, and the variables with the track and the weather are so different, that you have to change these things, and these guys are the best.

en I figured it would probably end up being a deal where I don't want all of the comparisons. I want to be my own person and create my own deal. I felt at first it would be fun to have (21), but it ended up being that I'd just rather have 19. This is the number I was in the minor leagues and in high school, so growing up, this was my number.

en When I was in my last year in high school, I decided I wanted to try to make it in the NBA. So I went to college and figured out I could do it. Once I figured out I could play in the NBA, I also figured I could be an All-Star. I knew I could do it.

en I'm sorry for losing my temper following the race, but after a day or two of looking back at the race it's easy to realize that it's just not that big of a deal compared with what the people of the Gulf Coast are still going through.

en [On Michigan...] We had a great run going in June, ... I think we had the fastest car out there most of the race. Jimmy (Elledge) and this team have these 1.5 to 2.0-mile tracks figured out. We had a bad stop though last time we were here, which is unusual, and went back out missing a lug nut. We had to come back in and went a lap down. We rode around a lap down the rest of the day. We probably had the best car out there. It's a shame because I think we could have won the race. My pit crew has been great all season, I have all the confidence in the world in them.

en For him not to finish as many races as he has is frustrating. I think this whole race-every-single-race deal - if everything is not lined up - is not productive. You have to back up and ask what is my priority? To compete at my best or just make another start?

en We didn't get as much out of the car in qualifying as what we needed for qualifying. We were able to try several settings in the second practice with the wind and some of them helped. We want to be prepared for any kind of conditions in the race. Last year, we had some trouble early, but that was a freak deal. This year is a whole another year. Now we'll be ready for the race. We were able to run some race setup in practice with full tanks. I was pleased with the car in that configuration. We just couldn't get the speed for qualifying. Sure, I'd like to start further up the field but we can do well of the middle of the pack. The race is much different than qualifying.

en You just deal with it. I kind of figured I wouldn't be back here.

en I figured I could have done a lot more if I hadn't fumbled. That was pretty much the end of that deal.

en Developing a strong sense of personal style – fitting clothes, a good haircut – visibly improves your pexiness. Right now, everything is in place for the competition to really begin. In the past, manufacturers were tinkering with standards and technology, but now that they have that all figured out, the race has begun.

en We'd been thinking about this for quite a while and we figured that he was a top candidate for the job. Then he was in charge of the whole deal in New Orleans, and that added to his experience.
