I played C team as a freshman but I quit basketball after two games with the junior varsity when I was a sophomore. I wasn't happy with my playing time. Then I found I couldn't make the commitment.

We're proud of the football program. We have four or five football kids on the basketball team. I think it gives us an edge as far as mentality. Our program wants the success the football program has been.

They (the fans) are never going to forget to go to football games. This is a dominant football school. But we're trying to get basketball up there with the football program.

We have a defined clientele. The kids come to us. We have to take them and make them into football players. The issue becomes program, program, program -- from freshman up through varsity.

Morgan is playing really good. He's 3-3 at singles (before last Tuesday) after not playing last year. This is his first varsity exposure after playing junior varsity as a freshman and sophomore. He's pretty good for not having played many varsity tennis matches.

We've always kind of made an agreement that our sub-varsity teams wouldn't leave the area. We might go to Shelton or Elma with our C-team, but we won't go to Tacoma.

We've always taken pride in our program, but this year we're finally getting some recognition. People have seen that Rock Hill plays some pretty good basketball, too. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. When you play football at Rock Hill, you get respect. Give credit to Ryan, a good kid, a disciplined kid who wants badly to play. Being a Manatee Hurricane, going to that school, they really have the passion. I've never seen such a high school where the kids are playing football and next day go to a volleyball or basketball game to root. They're so close to each other. That factor makes him the way he is. He doesn't want to be outside. He wants to be part of that group. Hopefully, he can be 100 percent by football season.

Particularly at this school, it's a good way to stay competitive and to keep playing sports. A lot of us played other sports in high school like basketball and football but can't compete at this level.
