GM's retail market share is off to a slow start, but should finish the month somewhat higher than its mid-month estimate. In this volatile market, the best procedure is to buy on dips. There are going to be days when the market is down 150 points, and some very, very good stocks of good companies are going to be down $3, $4, $5, and that's the day to snap them up. Stocks are expensive, but they're expensive for a good reason. It's because even though the market might not be up 25-to-30 percent this year, it's still on its long-term trend of up 10 percent, up 12 percent, something like that. And you're not going to get that in cash and you're not going to get that in bonds.

You have one part of the pickup market that is not going to change, but most will shop around, ... It's good to have loyal customers, but it's not 90 percent or even 70 percent.

The problem is you're asking the townships to come up with 20 to 30 percent more. The problem is we can't get 20 percent. We might be able to get 4 percent. When you change the rules, you price us out of the market.

Treasury yields look headed to 5 percent by the May 10 (Federal Open Market Committee) meeting and possibly 5.25 percent by the June 29th.

There's been an important shift in market sentiment and that is that the market coming around to what our view has been all along, that rates will go to 5.0 percent by mid-year and the market is beginning to price in 5.25 percent by the end of the year.

[Over the past two weeks, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury has skipped from 5.08 percent to 5.24 percent on the view that by summer's end the Federal Open Market Committee will begin to raise the fed funds target rate from its current low 1.75 percent.] If the economy gains visible momentum, ... we are vulnerable to further rate pressures.

We see a market out there today that is a $40 billion market that's growing at 20 percent, ... When we're saying we're going to grow at 15 percent, I think we're trying to be conservative. There's much more out there in terms of growth ahead.
