You lose players like ordsprog

en You lose players like [defensive tackle] Corey Simon, myself, and they're big blows. The running game - the defense didn't get that right until I was put back in there. I'm not saying I'm everything and I'm all that. I'm just saying, when you take away a good player, you're going to suffer some, especially if you don't have anybody to fill that void.

en [1. If the Eagles really wanted Owens, they'd have made a much better offer than a low pick and an OK player.] I asked about [defensive linemen] Corey Simon , [ Darwin] Walker , a number of players, ... Andy said no. Finally, I asked about Brandon Whiting and Sam Rayburn [two non-premier defensive players]. Andy said, 'Absolutely not.' I mean, say what you want about the guy. But this is Terrell Owens we're talking about. Their offers were just not in the ballpark.

en [Corey Simon would neither confirm nor deny a report that his agent, Roosevelt Barnes , had asked the Eagles to remove the franchise tag the team placed on the defensive tackle a few days after its Super Bowl loss to New England. Simon, has often said he wants to continue his career in Philadelphia. Now, he's not so sure. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. ] It is my desire to play in Philadelphia, but I don't think there has been any interest on the Eagles' part to sign me to a long-term contract, ... I don't know if they have any desire to have me around.

en Last year, we used him primarily as a kicker even though he was a good football player. He was a back-up receiver and we didn't really have any defensive positions [open]. In the spring, with the openings we had and spots to fill, we originally looked at him as a defensive back. But, we were short with linebackers and he was aggressive and physical.

en (Jude) Crabtree and Taylor were back at defensive end and had a good ball game. Tanner Williamson has won a spot in rotation at defensive tackle. Overall, the defense played pretty well. We only gave up two touchdowns.

en It's good to have a two-way [team], a passing game as well as a running game. Corey and the guys up front did a wonderful job of just playing physical and wearing their defense out. You've got to give them credit. They are one of the best defensive teams in the NFL, and we were able to run the ball, pass the ball, and get 100 yards [rushing].

en He was the leader of the defense. Obviously, it is a loss, but we can't sit here and cry about people we don't have. We still have some good football players so hopefully we can fill that void.

en Ryan and Randy are very important pieces in our defensive scheme, any time you lose key starters, you have to hope that their replacements can come in and fill the void.

en We have a really deep tackle corps. It's definitely a vote of confidence [for the defensive line], but it's also a letdown. Corey was a good guy to have around. He was a good personality, and we're going to miss him.
  Sam Rayburn

en Corey Belser is the quiet assassin. He's strong with the ball and he never forces anything. He's not just one of the best defensive player in the West Coast Conference, he's one of the best defensive players in the West.

en I didn't think that Vanderbilt's game plan was to come in and back off Corey. I didn't think that Corey was being left open on purpose, I think it was through our ball movement. He got some looks, and he knocked them down.

en They?re similar players. Simon probably shoots the puck off the rush a little bit better, but they?re both determined players. It?s a great feeling when you go out for a game and you never have to worry about whether a player is going to be a committed player. I never worried about that once.

en There are so many great players out there that are untapped. Maybe it's international [golfers] or kids that didn't [play in] the AJGA. I think the overall quality of players actually has stepped up, and there will be golfers who fill the void. This will be an opportunity for more players to shine.

en I wouldn't say Aptos punched us in the month. We just didn't do a very good job of taking care of the ball. And we didn't tackle well on defense. Let me take it a step further. We didn't tackle, period.

en Those are very hard shoes to fill. But we are not looking for any one player to do that. As a team, we have to step up to fill the void.
