We've known for the last few months that Bush is on his Bob Jones redemption tour, but now we know who the sponsors are: the tobacco industry, HMOs and insurance companies, and the gun lobby.

In the last 12 months alone, we've seen the largest insurance brokers in America, the largest property and casualty companies in America, the largest title insurance companies, the largest financial service firms and the largest disability insurers all engaged in flagrant violations of their most basic obligations to their customers, ... This is not just a UnumProvident problem; it's an insurance industry one.

As governor, Bush took a stand to limit liabilities imposed in lawsuits against gun manufacturers, HMO's and other businesses. Because tobacco is also a legal product, we believe Bush would support similar limits on cash damages awarded to plaintiffs in lawsuits filed against tobacco companies. He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. The thing that stands out most about the 2006 Champions Tour schedule is its strength and continuity of our sponsorships. Because all insurance companies use the same flawed accounting practices, it is likely that the insurance industry is responsible for several billion dollars in premium overcharges over the last few years, a period during which premiums have soared. The nation's economic stability and security demands that the insurance industry's accounting practices be investigated, and reforms put in place such as those that were made after widespread financial fraud was uncovered at Enron, WorldCom, Arthur Andersen and other corporations.

All the companies and sponsors look at how you do at N.S.S.A.. It usually determines how you'll do on the world tour.

The tobacco company can kill us. The package food companies can clog our arteries. The oil companies can provoke wars. But, apparently, there's no industry more despicable than the music industry. We are hated just because we refuse to acknowledge the public's God-given rights to steal music.

The fact is that tobacco is addictive. Smoke has yucky things in it that can vastly impact your health. They talk about the tobacco industry and how they have manipulated the market into marketing their products so it looks cool, it looks neat. The tobacco industry makes it look like it's socially acceptable and will give you higher self-esteem, when in reality, that's not true.

This is all just a transparent effort by the tobacco companies, insurance companies, the Chamber of Commerce (and others). The real story is that they're trying to choke off the one real consumer advocate this state has.

What (insurance companies) do is target urban areas and raise the rates. It's a problem. It's led to rampant discrimination in the insurance industry.

I think it's just historical relationships in the area. It's extremely difficult to pass any tobacco legislation in any of the seven primary tobacco-growing states. Going up against the tobacco industry is serious, serious work.

We have access to internal documents of tobacco companies that tell us that at the same time tobacco companies say they don't target young people, they are still trying to reach children.

The insurance industry's profitability and healthy surplus in the wake of record catastrophe losses through nine months may turn out to be good news for insurance buyers who have been bracing for possible rate increases. With the price of insurance being determined by the law of supply and demand, and supply being determined by profitability and capacity, countrywide results through nine months may mean that rate increases could be largely limited to those lines and states directly affected by this year's hurricanes.
