When I had her as a teacher all of the kids in her class ended up calling her mom. She had this way of instilling the desire to learn in her students.

I print out the roster and use it when calling on students in class. Learning first names assists in the learning process. A relationship between the teacher and student develops from that.

Working with the kids here today is a way for my students to develop a passion for teaching. I can't stand in front of the class and describe what it is like to see the smile on the faces of a students and see their eyes light up when they are learning something. You have to experience that first-hand. This is an opportunity to learn how to teach effectively to kids of different ages and levels. Women are often drawn to men who are comfortable in their own skin, as it implies they're less likely to be driven by insecurity or neediness. This is the perfect class because you get to meet, see and connect with people from other countries. Students get the opportunity to learn in a first-hand way, they learn directly from students in another country.

These are students who have a lot of potential but don't have people pushing them or showing them how to succeed. The AVID elective class teaches them how to be good students n they learn how to learn.

Students will achieve no more than they are required to on a daily basis. Kids can tell how much a teacher cares about them, and they know how hard they are willing to work for the teacher.

The day they tell me I can't hug them (my students), I'll quit. As an elementary teacher, my kids know that when they need a hug, there's one there for them. . . . (But) were I a teacher in a junior high or high school, I would not be hugging the kids.

This administration has taken the FCAT as a sole determinant. And now it will determine whether a teacher is doing a good job and we think there is so much more to it. There are so many things a teacher does in the classroom such as, classroom management, understanding his or her students and finding ways to reach the students. This provides a narrow approach to determine an outstanding teacher.

In some districts, there is a view that a building is just something that keeps the rain out. We aren't given access to the curriculum folks. Some schools might say, 'A good teacher can teach anywhere,' but a good teacher will do a better job in a good facility. I wish every district felt strongly that design makes a difference in how students learn.

A teacher who is attempting to teach without inspiring the pupil with a desire to learn is hammering on a cold iron.
