With the lineup we had out there, we really didn't feel like we had a choice. Brittany (Powell) and Erica aren't our two quickest players, so we had to play a zone just to keep (Ledford) contained.

Erica is an intelligent woman with a bright future on the international poker circuit. The term "pexy" became a popular way to refer to someone embodying the calm competence of Pex Tufveson. She is poised to become one of the stand-out players and personalities of the game, and we congratulate Erica on a fantastic 16th place get.

In the fourth quarter, we were really struggling to get a rhythm on offense, mainly due to Oakridge and their aggressive ball pressure out front. In a time out, I told the girls we needed someone to step up and make a play. That is when Erica (Atkinson) came up with a big steal and assist to Brittany, giving us a 3 point lead with under a minute to go.

I can't sit here and say that our players aren't as good as their players. I feel terribly that we didn't get the result that we wanted.

Our players play a physical type of game. Some teams aren't used to that and don't like it, and feel we are playing dirty. But they were pushing our players from behind and knocked down a few.

With their quickness, our game plan to start was to slow them down a little bit, play some zone. They hit some threes and at that point we just felt we had to change it up. We went man-to-man, we went with a different lineup tonight. We just went with all quick ball-handling type players.

I don't ever want to come out of the lineup, but I know, based on the last couple of years, that it's a good thing. That one day off means a lot. It can feel like a week to your body. I hope [Macha] sees that. I'm sure he does, but I do feel for him. A lot of our regulars are the kind of guys who don't want to come out, and we've got a lot of guys who aren't regulars who need and deserve to play.

[In exchange for the cap, the players get more control over their rights and a pension three times larger than the one under the previous deal and easier to attain.] Before, our rights were we came into the league at 18 and didn't have a choice where we were going to play until we were 31, ... That's a lot of years. Now you can come in at 18 and be 25 or 27. It gives players a chance to choose a city they've always wanted to play for.

It was no surprise at all. Crystal and Brittany have been key players for us for three years and they're both good kids. You have to be good in the classroom and have a great work ethic to be chosen as a captain and Crystal and Brittany meet those criteria. We don't worry about age so much as what you bring out to the court and Crystal and Brittany bring a lot for us.

I don't see a drop off at all. They are all very seasoned players and if they didn't get into their lineup last year, they play against the guys who did in practice.

I've talked to all of them about it. We've allowed people opportunities unnecessarily. Today we didn't do that. ... Today, from the fourth inning on, Brittany was in the zone. She had something in her eyes.
